My friend's funky Metro hatch, it's not so much a joke as it is a freewheeling expression of fun and individuality. He's the one who's been living in Hawaii, and now he's moving to Key West as well, so it's pretty much an island thing.

are you serious about the angle though?

It's true about the angle. Raising the nose high gives the impression of power and confidence, like the car is being launched into the stratosphere ( as opposed to into the ground ). To the untrained eye, it's kind of a subconscious effect. The "under construction" theme you had is actually quite clever. :)

Yeah, I would leave the carbon hood bare. Spending nearly 300 on it entitles you to show it off a bit, plus it's a cool look.

About lightening the front, short of carbon fiber everything. I don't know how much the stock mirrors weigh, but you might replace those. Any frame or suspension part that isn't aluminum might be switched out. Take out the AC and any extranious stuff in the nose. I'm guessing the Civic is pretty sparse up there anyway though. It'd be cool to weigh your car's weight balance to see just where it stands in that regard.

Iroc, where do you keep that car, in a coal mine?

your friend sounds pretty crazy but pretty fun too. if i lived in hawaii i dont think i could ever move anywhere else....

thats interesting about the angle though, usually for the tilt shots its easier to angle the nose down when taken from the front of the car, and it usually tends to look more natural. i need more experience to further refine my taste and technique though, so we will see how my glamour shots of my civic progress :lol:

its a shame i get some negative attention with the hood. people are just more likely to want to cut me off assuming im just some street racing ricer or something. little do they know i have every intention of being a curtious driver..... jerks.

i would love to get the corner weights of my car, and more importantly i would love to get coilovers and corner balance it. right now i bet its still close to 60/40. i have taken roughly equal amounts from the front and rear. front - hood and battery, rear - spare, jack and rear seat backs for the summer.

Bleh your gonna get alot of negative attention in that car, especially with that hood. If you have alot of exhaust noise it will be even worse. Most people hate those cars. Sorry, I am not a fan and I tend to make fun of them myself. Though, the most I might due would be display some torque.

Hey, believe it or not in Pennsylvania they are banning aftermarket exhausts. All cars equipped with aftermarket exhaust systems are going to have to revert back to stock. Its nice because even though Camaros and Mustangs and the like are known to be raced. The police tend to go after the imports. I guess domestics are considered safer? Even though an Iroc-Z and a Fox Mustang were some of the first cars to be crushed.

LNC- I keep the Camaro in my garage but I have clay all over the floor to keep the oil from projects from staining. Normally, thats fine but my mother puts the dog in the garage. Creating a mess of dog hair and clay all over the car. Even with the car cover on.

thats impossible. whenever anyone has an exhaust leak they never ever put an oem exhaust back on. they go to a muffler shop and have the generic peice put back on.

it does go to show how ignorant pigs hold their prejudicies though. its sad that imports are discriminate against, but then who's fault is it? the rednecks or "the fast and the furious" and its followers. either way i think ill be painting the hood in the next 6 months.

its funny that you need to "show torque". we dont need to show it to be quick :) all of the civic owners i know with 250+ft.lbs. in their civics run 12s. a few local all motor guys are run 12s in their civics with less than 180ft.lbs. i know you want to call bs, thats why you shouldve gone to raceway park in englishtown on the 14th.

i do love my stock exhaust though. it has trouble keeping up with the motor but its very discrete.

A ban on all after market exhausts in PA? I don't see how they could possibly enforce that, short of pulling over every car with a fart can, or every pickup truck with big duals - and there are a whole lot of those. For whatever reason, not everyone would be inclined to change it back to stock either.

Bleh, you should stick the message "COURTEOUS DRIVER" across your rear window in big white letters.

These were introduced late last year, They have yet to go over them again......

Issue: Vehicle Noise / Audio system

Bill: HB 998

Status: In Committee

Location:

Description: Amends the vehicle code to add a section including vehicle sound amplification systems so that no one will operate such a device so that it can heard from 50 or more feet away. Penalty would be a fine of not more than $100.

Author: House members LaGrotta and Bebko-Jones

Intro Date: 16-Mar-05

Bill Type: Two Year Bill from 2005

This is from SEMA

Pennsylvania Reintroduces Bill to Ban the Use of

Aftermarket Exhaust Systems

Legislation (H.B. 1330) that would effectively prohibit the use of exhaust systems other than a “factory-installed muffler” or a “muffler meeting factory specifications” has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives by Representative Michael K. Hanna (Phone: 717/772-2283, Fax: 717/787-4137). The bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.

Contact Rep. Hanna and Members of the Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 1330

H.B. 1330 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 1330 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance and utility.

H.B. 1330 would make it nearly impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

H.B. 1330 perpetuates the erroneous assumption that enthusiasts who equip their vehicles with modified exhaust systems are involved in illegal street racing.

This is the first thing I thought of. All these decisian makers should make a point to know a bit about that which they speak. So many of their claims are based on what they've been told by the people who are complaining and demand reform, many of whom are coming from prejudice and ignorance themselves.

There are fart cans, and there are performance muffers, just like there are sour apples everywhere. But not everyone who equips non-OEM spec parts are out to raise hell. Blanket policies are never a fair or smart move.

I can see ways how that bill could fall through though. Too many grey areas involved.

I would like to hear less of the fart cans. I mean when a 200 horsepower 4 cylinder needs to be that loud. Oh I found out something yesterday the Lamborghini Diablo's exhaust sounds like Sh%&. Really wished I had the Iroc with me. I might have had him through the 60ft. What do they run in the 0-60? I'm probably around 5.7 on my stock junker

Geschrieben

Fart cans are just made to be loud, nothing more. They need to be outlawed if anything.

A Diablo, you ran across one? There are so many variations of Diablo's, but your typical late model Devil can run to 60 in under 4 seconds, like 3.8. That's if the driver has any skills at all.

No, the Lambo V12 has more of a stock car sound to it, with a fair bit of rasp. At least that's how the exhaust is. But they can sound really good actually.

It caught my attention from about a 1/2 mile away a guy in his 20's was driving it. I was getting gas for the Iroc (with a gas can). It looked like this may not be the exact year but looks almost exactly the same.

It was this

with this backend in yellow..

Beautiful car but the exhaust was too raspy for me.

Geschrieben

its faster than your car. dont worry. and it probably has a 60ft of 1.8ish since its very likely that its awd.

i dont think you know what a real fart can sounds like.... but yea this pa ordinance is flat out garbage and i have a stock exhaust on my car.

Geschrieben

well i was thinkin 60ft. If I hookup I can run a 2.0 flat,(stock, gotta love the low end) if I don't get tire grip, maybe a 2.2 or 2.4 . If it hooks I can just about get anyone on the launch...

Bleh, the fart can = loud annoying ass muffler that can be heard for miles. Right?

Geschrieben

at first i thought you were calling me a fart can :lol::lol: the general definition is true but to me it is a pipe thats on a car thats slow and annoying that can be heard for miles. some aftermarket exhausts sound pretty good. even on fourbangers, but i know you have mixed opinions about that and i know why.

i understand that you like your exhaust to sound like thunder and i know that sounds sick when a big v8 rumbles. but the high revving sound is nuts, too. the sound of anything going to 9000+rpm usually takes it away from fart can status for me.

Geschrieben

I revved my 305 to 7K once, it lit my cats on my and blew out my 20 yr. old stainless steel muffler. Now my car is loud, and it sounds nice.

Bleh, I actually had a buddy that had a 99? Prelude, beautiful car but needed some body work. Racing caused the fiberglass to get messed up. He put on a few thousand in exhaust and the CAI. Car sounded really nice, it was slow as sh%$ but sounded nice. He sold it, the current owner thinks its a "bada$$" race car, and beats the crap out of it. lol.

But yes I do prefer the lumbering sound of an 8. Its great, hearing cars drive from my window I know what engine they have...

Geschrieben

Iroc, the Diablo you saw could have been an earlier model, like a 5.7 liter. It could also have had a crappy after market exhaust since we're on the subject.

I love the sound of a free revving engine screaming to redline, but I don't think anything sounds all that good at 9,000 rpm. When it just turns into a high pitched whine and you stop hearing the growl of the moving parts that's the end of it for me.

Have a friend who once owned an '84 Toronado with a 307, muffler fell off and the thing sounded like a top fuel dragster, especially at idle. Totally redneck. :)

I can personally guarantee you that you wouldn't beat an SV from any speed, for any distance.

thats what i love. street bikes and formula cars sound incredible.

to get back on topic: i just finished throwing in the new front lower control arms and the front swaybar along with wheel spacers in the front. :-))! no pics necisary you would have to drive it to really feel the difference.

Geschrieben

I was wondering what the SV stood for..... Translation "Pushes Fast"

Geschrieben

There is a silver grey Diablo 6.0 and a lime green Murcielago in my town which I assume share the same garage. Whenever I've seen the Diablo I always thought it sounded good, but then it was just cruising.

One thing to note about the SV is that it has air scoops on it's roof, built into the engine cover. If you see that Lambo again, see if it has those.

Talk to you later. Have a good trip, and if possible, stay strapped if you know what I mean.
