I'm surfing over the mercedes.nl site looking for the tech specs of the CL series. So I find them and to my suprise the CL500 is listed as a 7 speed transmission and not a 5, the CL600 and CL55 are listed as a 5 speeds auto however.

Does this mean MB is preparing for the 7G-Tronic release?

If I remember correctly (which has been pointed out to me that I often don't, isn't that right Polar? ) Mercedes was preparing to launch the 7 G-Tronic in, I think mid-2004, on their 2005's.

What do y'all think... by June at the latest?

Whats even more amazing, if you look at the E240 you'll see it is listed as a 6 speed manual. Manual? 6 Speed? Where did that come from?

And if they have a manual 6 speed why not use it in the higher ranges aswell?

I don't know about the US but MB needs to realize that people in the EU do not like autotrannies. Our cars have been manuals since the day transmission were invented.

MB should come off this holly crusade and stop trying to convert everybody to auto's.

Although I have to admit those auto trannies MB is making are pretty advanced and come close to manuals performance wise.

no, truly, mercedes' 6spd manual sucks, it makes their great autos so easy to choose over it. They use it on all C-Class for '04, but in the C320, it is .1 sec. faster than the 5spd auto, 6.8 vs. 6.9. You know that means it's slower on all but your best runs. After the 5spd Jaguar offers for the X-Type (worst shifter since the saabs of the early 80s), the merc. 6spd is the worst you can buy on an expensive vehicle.

just want to support what FOX said, i noticed what you said sabout the x-type shifter sucking. i had one for a short while in italy last year and i noticed the shifting was horrible. i was not very impressed by that car. and if you are saying the MB is just as bad..... that is just disgraceful
