New toys for E500

Before the end of this year the E500 will get a whole range of new toys. 4MATIC 4 wheel drive is already available as of yesterday. Before the end of 2003 the E500 will also get 7G-TRONIC 7 gear automatic transmission, Speed dependent powersteering and a HUD.

7-speed transmissions are a huge gimmick. Most cars hardly ever use their highest gear anyway.

That is certainly true. A seventh gear is only really used in racing so what is the point here? The car would never realistically use its highest gear as LNC said so why bother?

Or am I missing the point?

The 7 speed transmission is goofy.

Why not just a better 5, or possibly a 6. At the point of 7, just do a CVT.
