well, performance numbers are nearly equal - with a pin-head size lead for 350Z, I doubt you'd ever notice a difference. The 350Z is more on the edge head-turning hipster, the G35 says "I have class" - it is a world class gran-turismo car. It also seats 4. What statement do you want to make?

Geschrieben

yeah i came to that same conclusion. the infiniti is definetly classier, lets say, a more luxurious 350z with 2 extra seats. also price difference is minimal.

The G35 is what I'd go for. But then again maybe the 350Z. Actually as PolarFox said they're pretty much equal when it comes to performance (the G35 makes 280HP, and the 350Z makes 287HP). And in terms of looks I'd again have to agree with PolarFox. So in this case, for both cars my answer is "definitely maybe".

i ended up getting the Z a month ago and im loving it. i kinda miss the 2+2 design though, but oh well its worth it!!

Geschrieben

It all depends on how many people you need to sit! Personally I find the G35 to be a more versatile option then the Z. The minor performance difference could easily be made up for with aftermarket tuning.

Geschrieben

well, you could do what small sports car drivers have done for year! put someone in the back. I place people regularly in the space behind the seats of my alfa romeo, i've seen my freinds corvette comfortably take on 4.

But in reality, 2+2 is always nice to have. The G35 looks just as sporty, but is also very classy, I give it points for that.

Geschrieben

Many people are now finding that the 350Z is a bit too edgy for their taste, which is why they'd rather go for the G35. The power difference is minor (7HP) so that's not a worry. If the sporty nature (or lack-there-of) of the cars is what you're worried about then rest assured they're both fairly fast. As I mentioned before the G35 is certainly classier. This shouldn't be too big a burdon though, because if you actually know what you're looking for you're not very likely to need much help in deciding which to go for. And the price difference is also not really much of a factor. So that should make things a bit easier as well.

350z is edgy looking maybe. Ride quality is pretty compliant, handling is rather soft for a sports car, it is in no way as edgy as an S2000, and was never meant to be. It is a matter of taste.

I'd take a 350Z convertible before a G35.

Geschrieben

well the hp difference is minimal but high end is where you see the differences. 1/4 mile for my car was 13.9. i saw the g35 run in magazines high 14s. but still 2+2 is great and im wondering if i made the right decision.

also road and track tested my Z and it pulled .99g left .97 right so im happy

Hallo djfux69,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Andere Automarken (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

i wish they would do some weight reduction on that car.

You have the track version of the 350Z right?

Geschrieben

yeah it definetly needs some weight reduction. i dont know where to take it from though!

i have the perfiormance model. i didnt want to get the track model because the only difference between mine and track (besides price) is rims and brakes. while the rims are 2 lbs. lighter it makes up for it with the heavy rotors which are an inch bigger on every rotor. i figure i am gonna replace the rims and brakes anyway so i didnt want to spend the extra money. other than that they are identical. i am ordering cross drilled slotted brembo rotors now, and racing hart C4 wheels. they are multi peice wheels and are lighter than the rays wheels that they put on the track model, also my new rotors are lighter than the track model. my friend took his track model and ran a 14.1. so i am pleased with the 13.9 my car put out bone stock. also i ordered cold air intake, while the gains on this are mostly mental, it still dynod at +3 rwhp and 2 in torque. i doubt ill feel it, but oh well. ill let you know my new times in a little while

Geschrieben

The brembo brakes they put in there are very very potent, and really don't need to be replaced in the track. The performance variant is still very good. That car would sound amazing with a free flowing borla exhaust system.

Geschrieben

i found the apex-i dunk n1 exhaust which is true dual. and claims 27.3 rwhp gains. ill look into it more though. yeah the stock brembos are good but i didnt want to pay extra for them, i get everything at cost so it is cheaper for me to do it myself.

Geschrieben

well if you get parts at cost, then it makes perfect sense. Your true dual exhaust has an X or H pipe right?

Must be loud if it adds that sort of horsepower. That car needs a better intake on it. More fuel pressure too.

Geschrieben

yeah the exhaust on the new pipe is x-pipe i think. injen just came out with one now too. i ordered intake and apex-i s-afcII. i need to go dyno it and tune the computer.

yeah im skeptical about the exhaust because i do NOT want a really loud car, i want to see and hear it in person before i order.

Geschrieben

borla has a thing on their website where you can listen to how the exhaust will sound.

of a photo or site of the infinniti?? Would love to check it out.

i am very familiar with the 350Z having them here in Australia for a while never heard of a 4 seater that looks the same??

PS...new to this site...forgive my ignorance....thnks

I'd go for the G35 coupe too. Though personally I think Nissan is made a mistake introducing two cars with such close specs. If the coupe came with a V8 GT model they'd really have a hot machine there.

Geschrieben

well you have to figure that both cars are nearly identical low end, its high end where the difference is huge. i raced a g35 on the highway, and it couldnt keep up at all. but you figure, the g35 is the 350 with a tuxedo. less sporty, a lot more creature comforts, and it sacrifices a little bit of performance. but for regular everyday american driving, the g35 is a great choice, however anywhere else. 350z

Geschrieben

how do you know the G35 wasn't an automatic, those are much slower. They are pretty close in the quarter and 0-100 times, i get what you are saying, but the .3 second difference to sixty could be more than absorbed in a mere few hundred dollars of easy bolt-ons. the folding back seat, larger trunk, and superior exterior you can't add to the 350Z.

Geschrieben

it had the brembos, the only one that comes with brembos is the 6 speed. trust me a lot slower high end.

Geschrieben

if you look, the torque curves are nearly identical between the VQ35 in 350Z and G35.

Furthermore, the G35 has better aerodynamics (a lower drag coefficent than the 350Z), and seeing as acceleration is Force/(mass+(drag^2), since drag is very low at low speeds, it isn't really a factor and it is all about weight, but high end, since drag is squared!!!! it becomes a huge, you go twice as fast, drag goes up by a factor of 4, so high end, a G35 should be faster.
