i don't thin so. It can be a cool ride, but it isn't a member of the "breed"

Geschrieben

it might be a nice car. It just seems to be limited be the fact it is a civic tuned upward. What if they took S2000 and made a bargain basement model for the same price, which would be a sweeter car?

Geschrieben

yeah civics are economy cars and nothing more. anybody that thinks that a civic is, or ever will be a racecar is sadly mistaken. i have respect for those cars because they have good fuel economy. but thats about it. the only time i think a civic would be even halfway interesting, is if it had a v8 rear wheel conversion. but as far as i know they dont exist. i do love hondas though so dont get me wrong

Geschrieben

honda makes wonderfully efficent engines, they all seem to drive the same (the high winding, midly sports sounding, keep building power with the revs feel). I have great respect for what honda does with their engines, their cars just aren't for me. I don't understand civic tuning. What about a civic says "go fast"? If you wanted a cheap car to make fast, look at an old mustang, or an RX-7. Civic is a fine economy car, it is NOT a racer. Why try to make something never designed to be fast, fast against its will?

I have although seen a 2002 Chevy Impala (transverse 60 degree V6 stock) with an LS1 mounted transverse and front wheel drive. I figure if they did that, why not drop an accord v6 into a civic?

Geschrieben

exactly. civics arent racecars. yeah i saw a civic with an accord v6 . even that is a step up on origionality. i just wanna se one with a v8 or something. i think it would be the ultimate sleeper. civic 4dr. with a supercharged, or boosted v8. haha i could imagine the look on people faces when they hear the 8 rumbling down the road.

Geschrieben

sure. I had a volvo once pushing greater than 350hp to the front wheels. No one had a clue. Pull up to a stoplight, it was just and 850 with "R" badges and a wing (I even used a hidden exhaust system). It was pretty quiet at idle too. Stand on it though, and it was flying (as any 3,000lb 350+hp car should). That was a hell of a sleeper car. The car I have now is earmarked to get a ford v8 (either the 5.0 or 4.6). That should be a nice sleeper as well. A v8 in a civic gets tricky (transverse layout).

Geschrieben

yeah it would be tricky. but if it could be accomplished i think it would be amazing. you want a 5.0 in your volvo?

Geschrieben

Civics are wannabe cars, cuz they're rice

Anyone who has a civic and uses it for racing and is proud of it just can't afford a better car and the mods cost more than the car itself!!!!!!!!

Skyline is the way to go!

:o A friend has one, he instaleed the jackson racing supercharger, it really moves, we reach the 60 miles just in 6 sec. ¿dont yuo think it s a good time for a 4 cilinder? Then we took it to the highway, we reach 8000 revs in 5 gear the speed was 250 km hr. I am a german car fan but this thing impressed me.
Geschrieben

i personally think that jackson racing superchargers are the worste you can possibly buy. the gains are horrible.

Geschrieben

i had the chance to drive a civic si with the vortech supercharger. Thje vortech is a centrifugal supercharger, so you feel the real performance until you are in the highest revs. With the jackson ( roots type) you can feel the performance in the lower revs. Comparing both of them, I think that ther vortech maybe produces 20 or 30 more horsepower but I felt that the jackson makes the care more faster.

Eh, I personally Do not like civics, as a performance oriented vehicles.

The Civic Si, I look at it as an economy/sporty car that is desgined to appeal to young buyers. Personally Id stay away from that market, but for the price Id problably either look into the new SRT/4.

The new K20 engines do not have as much after market as a b16a, I yet to be impressed with a civic lets just put it that way and although it has a lot of aftermarket support, it produces very lukewarm results, compared to the money invested into it.

My main problems with it is the lack of tq so known to be an issue with Honda small displacement engines. The fact that its not great with boost, and the limited stability a unibody frame with a fwd drive train offers in high speed runs. At least its nimble for a fwd car, but then again its rather light car to begin with.

But it depends ot tastes, personally I don't like FWD vehicles. Although the new altima and maximas aren't so bad....

For this segment if I absolutely want a honda It think an Integra GSR, or a newer RSX-r is the better options. Although still there are many other options that imo are better for me.

Geschrieben

RSX is a great car. Honda does amazing things with engines, but i don't know why people ever chose them to mod out. The transverse engine mounting alone would detur me. I think altima is amazing, maxima to me is like a super altima with a bat-mobile rear end.

The altima 3.5SE 5spd runs 0-60 in 5.95 seconds. A reccord for a fwd production car.

Geschrieben

Ah yea that Altima is a nice car, for its segment, my father happens to own one, and well no complaints, except some people do not like the rather plain interior. But fortunately the interior of a car does not concern me to much. Its strongest point is obviously its acceleration power, Its handling is good for the fwd drive train, and size of the car. I guess some people like being wrapped in more classy materials, for me number one priority is performance, everything else comes second. But I guess the record will now go to fastest FWD sedan, since well the SRT4 will take the fastest FWD production car.

But at least it is a very roomy car.

Geschrieben

srt4 is all wheel drive.

i've always put the number one priority on how i connected with the car, and how much i enjoyed driving it (so interior is big). Kinda interesting how different performance car people can be.

Geschrieben

I don't mean to be rude but you are mistaken Dodge Neon SRT 4 are FWD.

Powertrain

• Transaxle: Heavy-duty five-speed manual NVG T850, front-wheel drive

Think of it this way real race cars have bare minimum in terms off luxury. :P The interior of the Altima is not horrible it is decent, its just that other competitors have slightly better materials for the interior.

Geschrieben

i am sorry, i was mistaken.

my data on the srt4 is old - really old. it pointed to it having a viscous coupled center differential awd system.

Too bad dodge is still using new venture trannies. the shifter on those suckers needs work. still an impressive car. Your right, interior means nothing on a race car. I drive my car to work everyday, and race it on a rare occasion. Even the Saleen S7 - which is directly derived from the S7R racecar has a nice interior.

But if i were buying a car for the low side of 25k, it'd be in an altima for sure.

Geschrieben

anything will go fast with enough money into it. a civic is not a practically fast car. I can make my volvo smoke tires with 114hp and a 4spd automatic. Scarier yet is with 5k sunk into the engine, i can be hauling better than 400 horepower from it.

Geschrieben

With that in mind, compare tha price on the civic and the cars that you think are better and i bet its more then 5k.

Geschrieben

Maxima or altima (both automatic)? wow, i didnt know the 0-60 record. I dont like the rear part of the altima, i think the headlights with the chrome are ugly.

Geschrieben

the altima is a 5spd stick. I have not seen test results for the new maxima yet, though with 25 more horsepower and a 6spd stick, it should turn over more impressive times yet (possibly even beating an SRT4).

A civic is not a cost effective car to make fast. The money neccesary to make a civic turning over sub 6 0-60 runs and still be reliable, durable, and easily drivable is signifigant.
