:-? Anyone can give me a sugestion on how to increase a little my car power without using Nitro or installing a turbo? It´s already has 160 hp in the stock 1.6 16v engine, so i just want to gain a 10-30 hp.... for now...

I am told by a honda dealer that you can change the timing, of your V-tec system.

Your v-tec systen comes in at about 5500 Rpm, when you change it with with their computer the v-tec comes in at about 4000 or even 3000 rpm, the power of your car will stay at 160 bhp but the explosive force will be much more.

also you can change your fly-wheel, but you car will get very nervous, the acceleration will become much better because the engine will rev more easily.

do not increase the revs because the engine isn't build for extreme high revs whithout any special modifications. bearings will run hot and possibly fail.

Thank´s... I will try to get more information on your sugestion, but its gonna be kind of hard because there´s none Honda dealer or a specialized shop nearby. The reason I asked it, because the turbo is hard to install since there´s no much space available in the engine compartment, and that the nitro would destroy the engine since it already has some miles...

if u want to add minimal hp do these things.

full exaust system.

intake system.

power pulleys.

this should increase your hp to what u want it to. each of these things will raise from 7-20 hp depending on what kind u get it might be more. remember that hp at the crank and hp at the wheels is different. you wont add that much at the wheels but u might be able to add 30 because its not a lot.

i do not suggest a lightened flywheel because if u use your car as a daily driver you risk having your flywheel shatter which will cause extensive damage to yoour engine.

raising max rpm is very difficult and expensive to do. you have to rebuild the bottom end of the engine. its really not worth it unless you are trying to race but even then i say go with turbo before u start to rebuild your bottom end.

if it is a really good flywheel, it **can** be worth it. If you have enough power that is. I think rebuilding the bottom end gets to be neccesary above a certain point anyway. Mercedes does it to all of the AMG Cars, and they are rock solid, some having 110hp/l. Just something to think about.

yeah its definetly worth it once u get above a certain hp. but he wants only 20-30 more hp for now so i dont think the flywheel would be worth it. it might end up doing more harm then good if the shatter.

the bottom end rebuild too for now he shouldnt worry about it. but when u want a lot of power go for it.

probably true, i don't know much about honda tuning, but in most american cars I have seen, and my volvos, by stiffening the bottom end, durability massively increases. If for only 20-30hp, then I wouldn't even considder it.

I know that works for other cheap "tuners" such as Opel/Vauxhall Astras. Civics are tricky tuners though, and I always advise everyone to spend money on getting a more powerful version of the same car than to tune it. I say this mostly because I've seen more than my share of over-tuned Civics and Preludes and Corollas and Celicas and Tiburons and the likes of the crap-tuner bunch. You could even opt for a low-psi-set NOS for a Civic to increase power just a bit. More important than anything (most people go for Turbos) is to get better filters and exhast systems and then maybe some medium-grade or beter intercooling. The tricky thing with Civic-type cars is that their engines are almost advertised as tuners, but not built to be tuned much higher than their original versions. I know one particular example where one guy (a friend of a class-mate of mine) attempted to violently tune and "soupe-up" a Civic with a 150HP+ NOS add-on that ended up killing the engine after less than 2 weeks. Why not just get more powerful cars? Why do you people spend money on after-market add-ons and end-up paying more than you would on an original with better equipment and engines? :-?:-?
