what do u guys think of the new VW toureg SUV. All i know is that it has the same chassis as the Porche cayenne but obviously doesn't have the specs to go with...

I think VW is using porche for an easy boost since they can since they own it, its all capital :-?:-?

smart for VW.

I hear the touareg is a good SUV, but I am still a skeptic.

There are two things wrong with this post:

1- VW does not own Porsche

2- VW actually did much of the engineering of the vehicle's chassis structure.

Porsche designed it's own interior, based on VW hard points

Porsche designed it's own chassis settings.

Porsche designed it's own engines and engine management systems.

sorry bout the wrong facts its easy to give props to a super-car manufacturer than a tiny people-mover maker...

either way i'm still certain VW owns Porche check it out and thank me later

VW does own a non controlling share of porsche. It is still very much a privately owned business (like BMW). Unlike BMW, porsche has entered a strategic partership with VW, it is for economic reasons. Just the same, VW is exerting way too much influence.

But VW does not "own" porsche.

I´ve never seen the new Touareg yet. But yesterday I saw two silver, a V6 and a V10 TDI. You hear that the V10 is a Diesel first, but hten when he accelerates, wooooow! The V6 hasn´t got motorsound... :D

i imagine that engine would have some amazing bottom end, I have driven a Ford F-250 pickup truck - which has a 6.0L V8 Direct Inject Turbo Diesel, 350hp, 575ft./lbs. of Torque, and that was with a 6 speed manual. Those big diesel engines have some amazing zoom in them. Strange they aren't that popular in north america. I would really like to see that V10 diesel come here, as it stands, the only diesels are in trucks here. I have seen a touareg in 4.2L V8 form, it looks to be a pretty quality car (not my taste, but still a good car). I imagine that such a heavy car may be burdened with a 3.2L V6, but I am not sure.

The Touareg definitely looks mighty aggressive and impressive. And power-output figures upwards of 300HP should be very good. I think VW is really redeeming itself (after the whole 1980's unpleasantness with the "Golf Country"...).

Geschrieben

Well, impressive, yes, but best in it's class, um, maybe not THE BEST, but I think it's close. I think the Audi is right up there with it. Also I'd like to see how the BMW X7 does.

Hallo loxionchild,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Andere Automarken (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

bmw abandoned the x7 project. the 2005 audi luxury suv will not compete with the touareg.

Geschrieben

Actually Audi's new SUV WILL compete with it. And the X7 hasn't been abandoned for sure yet.

The audi pikes peak is a vision of the future audi suv.

Martin Winterkorn said at the Geneva auto show that it will not be a rival for the touareg. It will be more a sports car with off road capabilities.

Well, believe that and you'll believe anything! Eventhough Audi is owned by VW, they're still gonna be competing. And believe me, when it comes down to it many people will be choozing between a Touareg or a Pikes Peak. There's some competition for you. Also, last I checked the Pikes Peak is based on the Touareg platform and is following the same direction. I doubt they are different classes of SUV. But again even if they are you can be sure they will compete. Because people who are gonna buy SUV's won't be looking specifically at a certain class of SUVs (they won't even care much). And of course Audi and VW are going to say their cars are not going to be competing with each other: they're practically the same company!

you know the 2005/2006 discovery is supposed to be pretty spectacular. the lincoln aviator is a worthy challenger. The aviator has a 4.6L 32V DOHC with 302hp/300ft./lbs. at 2700, a 5spd automatic, 4 wheel indapendant suspension, the ZF22 steering system, and a two speed transfer case.

indeed, i am sure with the newer MB engines, it will be pretty awsome.

The boys from Germany have serious contenders to pretty much any crown, and this is clear evidence.

This is the 2k5 ML:

And how about this Maybach cross-over SUV while I'm at it:

I couldn't resist posting this one:

And here's the future G-class (just a proposal sketch):

MLX, anyone?

Oh, and what "picture-posting" session would be complete without something compellingly strange? Here's the future R-class:

the maybach suv will be built in 2006 using the platform of the 2005 s-class. It will cost about 450000euro. That is almost 10 times more expensive than the touareg.

Geschrieben

Yeah I know it's gonna be helluva-expensive.

Also, notice how the GST R-Class has elements of the SLR in it...?!

I haven't been on in sometime or had a chance to post recently. But, after reading this thread I was feeling inclined to post my feelings on the Touareg.

We (my wife ) searched carefully in getting a new SUV. I will explain why we chose the Touareg in the first place. When looking, we considered another Suburban, the Cayenne, the X5, the Murano, the MBZ ML, and the Acura MDX. We quickly dismissed the Suburban realizing we didn't need anything that big anymore (And from experience I can't get past the terrible resale of American autos). We then dismissed the Murano because of its lack of size. Although, I loved the way it drove and handled, and was really impressed by its CVT transmission which you don't feel or hear shifting. We then tossed aside the X5, ML, and MDX for other reasons that made the Touareg more appealing to us (Which I will explain now).

Let me start off with performance. The Touareg has a 4.2L V8 with 310 HP. Though it is over 5,000 pounds, you can still feel the power of the V8. Only the Porsche and X5 felt nearly as powerful to us. It came with a 6 speed tiptronic with a manual option. Only the Porsche had as nice of a gearbox. When in manual mode, it is fun to drive (Don't tell the wife). It will get to 60 in roughly 7.5, which isn't bad considering its weight. It comes with air suspension that has three ride settings (Sport, comfort and automatic) and six ride heights. It has a 7,700 pound towing capacity (We have a big boat  ) which is 200 pounds better than our last Sub, and smokes any of the SUV's we looked at other than the Porsche. All tests say it will outdo almost any other rig off road... Even the Porsche. Not that we plan on taking it to the Rubicon anytime soon.

Let's move to the inside. Unless you have seen one and sat in one, or better yet driven one... It is hard to give the interior the proper credit in words. The interior is perfect. Everything in the interior is painstakingly detailed. Flawless. All of the controls and gauges are where you would hope to find them. Nothing is uncomfortable to locate or see. The instrument cluster is almost mesmerizing. Of course, a well thought out navigation system that doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. A four zone climate control that keeps everyone comfortable. Very comfortable seating, and as much interior room as we will ever need. More gadgets and small features than I can list (Or even likely still know about). Absolute silence when driving... No road or engine noise whatsoever (Well almost  ). My only complaint inside would be the radio. That does seem to take a rocket scientist to run  .

The reason for this over the Porsche... $25K comparably equipped! :o

We are very happy with our choice here. And I am not just saying that. After all, I did trade in my Speedster for it (Like I had a choice):) .

:-? That explains why they built the thing, now doesn't it? Thanks for clearing that up...

i have been interested in the new toureg. i have heard all good things about it and i really like it. i was considering the new range for my mother, but for the price.. i think toureg takes it.

Geschrieben

Well, from my experience with the Touareg, you won't be disappointed. There is very little that it doesn't have... The speed and power of the Cayenne Turbo, or the size of the American beasts. But if you can look past those two things, the Touareg is hard to ignore!
