Volvo T-6R

For 2004 Volvo is introducing a new C series (C60) baed on the S80/S60 platform - with a revised rear suspension (which has been much needed for a while). Also, volvo will introduce S60 T-6R and C60 T-6R (coupe and cabriolet). These are going to use a higher performance version of the Bi-Turbo 2.8L Inline 6 (mounted transversally) and a 6 speed manual. Target horsepower is 300+. Whoever though volvos are boring - they now have a contender against RS4 - M3 - and C32 - so how boring are they now. I am also willing to bet that volvo's T-6R (also equipped with 18" wheels) will feature more safety features than any competitor.

Well, some updated news on Volvo's M3 competitor for next year. Instead of a biturbo inline six as originally though - a single turbocharged 2.5L inline 5 will be used (I have no idea as to why Volvo picked a naturally unbalanced 5 over a beautifully balanced six - maybe it was the dark season and they were bored?). HP figures hover from 300 up to 320 - a constantly variable shock system will be interfaced into the cars central comptuer grid allowing for all factors to determine shock dampening - in .002 second intervals. Also - a more aggressively tuned version of the Haldex system used in cross country and S60 AWD will be employed. T-5R will be available in wagon and sedan form. It still has the 18" wheels - and is still volvo safe. Sounds like the new Audi S4 may have a little competition from the swedish tank.

I love inline 5 such a nice sound in them. Check the old Audi inline 5. It also won everything in rally.

I was heart broken when the 850 debuted front wheel drive. I currently have a 740 as a commuter car - and have had an 850 T-5R. The T-5R was a powerful car no doubt, but in automatic form it simply wasn't terribly fast till higher speeds. I wish mine would have been a manual. The S60 has always impressed me. As odd as the 5 cylender design is it grew on me. The S60T5R is going to be amazing. Forget S4, 330i, they don't stand a chance - it this will at least give M3 and C32 something to keep in mind. I love the idea of a factory turbo engine at 300hp (i had my T-5R to the mid 270s). Furthermore it will have an aggressive version of the haldex AWD system. I cannot wait to drive one of these.

if only volvo made one of their awsome inline fives (which sound every bit as awsome as a V-10) in a rear wheel drive setup! If you look to your left - you will see I have a '91 740 (rwd) - can you guess when I have in mind for it?

I didn't know quite where to post this, but Ill do it here:

I saw one on the street today. It was either that, opr something that looked amost exactly like it. I do know it was a Volvo though, because it had VOLVO writ large on the front of the hood.

Any idea as to what it is?

This is directed at you because yo seem to be a Volvo freak (though that may be with new Volvos only). Don't know.

Oh, and about the stats you posted, it's crazy stuff. 2.5L inline-5? Hmm! That's a strange one. But tempting nevertheless. I want the S60 version (I don't like Wagons much, or I'd take the V70 for whatever reason, or I could just wait for the 2007 V90).

Needs a facelift (and asslift) though.

what, the S60 is an amazingly beautiful car, and its scultped muscular lines are beyond reproach.

And with a 300hp I5 turbo, the most sophisticated suspension electronics on a production car, and electronic all wheel drive, and volvo safety and interior quality, you have a car that can't be beat at, or within 8k of its price.

This is a volvo amazon. a common sight in Europe. smooth car:)

A friend of mine is building a straight six engine from s-60 with biturbo into a 240 :D

Uuum I have never ever seen one of those and I'm pretty darn sure that I live in Europe.

at least in Norway, were i`m located, there is not unusual to see an amazon. And of course in sweeden there is plenty

i'd love to own one of those. I think i may get a classic volvo sometime soon!!!

THAT "classic" Volvo isn't at all a common sight in North America (i'm pretty sure it's not), which is why I was surprised to see one. It looked like an old hunk'o-junk but I noticed it was a classic Volvo and it was honestly a breath of fresh air from today's Volvos which are a VERY common sight where I live. I'm getting very tired of the looks of corrent Volvos, and I think they need at least slight changes made to their current appearances. At least there's new models such as the XC-90 and that "super-safety" concept, to breathe some life into the Swedish brand's, uhh, brand. Volvo's basket of old eggs would appreciate a change of order every once in a while.

the S60 and S80 look is very modern and was a nice step forward
