Hello

My name is Tom and I'm a new member from California.

I work for an automotive restoration facility, where I source parts and research for various projects for the last six years

Past projects include the 1966 Ford GT40, Jaguar XJ220, the EB110, the M1 and the "Big Oly" Bronco.

I am currently involved with working on two EB110's, two 300SL's, F50 and most recently an Imperator 108i.

The Imperator could be interesting for a few members here on the board!

The arrival of the Imperator in the shop is what brought me here. I've visited the Isdera section, very surprising to see it has it's own dedicated section!

If the owner does not mind, I can post some photos of it.

Thank you! I came across this forum because of the Imperator.

That is the short list of projects I'm actively working on, I still have a 250 SWB, 2002 Turbo and another M1 waiting for their turns in the shop.

Hi @tomf,

first of all welcome to the forum!

It's nice you arrived here and we can even welcome a member from California,:-))! Wow, i am impressed what vehicles you have already been working on. Which car had been most fascinating for you so far? The 1966 Ford GT40 would definitely be my favorite of all. Best regards to you,

Sarah

In a shop where the majority of our work is Porsche related, I found my niche with the rare and obscure cars that come through the door here.

Of all the projects I have done so far, the GT40 (# P/1067) is still my favorite. I was involved with that car for almost three years. The car started life as a street car to be used as a promotional vehicle for perspective buyers in the Northern California region, but was later converted to a race car, then relegated to a garage in California for decades where the current owner found it. We brought it back from a tub to how it was when it left JWA in 1966. The car made it's first public appearance since 1977 at the 2021 Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance, where it won second place in the Post War racing class.

The first photo is how the car was the first time I saw it in 2019.

The second is the photo I was given as the end goal for how it should look.

Third photo is at the 2021 Pebble Beach Concours.

Fourth is a period photo of it doing pace car duty at the 1967 Monterey Grand Prix.

I was there a couple of times - very nice! And the ride from SF to Monterey is magnificent. Next time I am in CA I will come over :)

Hallo tomf,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Vorstellungen / Neumitglieder (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

It's very beautiful out here. I grew up in New York and wound up out in California on a cross country road trip and never went home.

Next time you're going to be in the area get in touch!

It seems like I have found my place!

Lifelong car guy. I have pictures of me as a child inside of a March 86G and E21 Gr.5 race car in BMW's North American headquarters, pretty sure that's where it all started.

I've been working in the auto industry for about 15 years now with six of them doing high end restorations.

Hi welcome to carpassion.com! What colour is the imperator? Is it silver with a red frame?

Same here. My dad used to tell me, "when you were two years old, you couldn't distinguish a cow from a horse, but very well an Opel (German GM division) from a Ford." And I grew up in the countryside. ;)

Hello Tom,

you're working on some really great vehicle projects. I find the GT 40 project the most exciting. We had a company here in Germany that copied the GT40 using Mercedes/Porsche technology unsuccessful.

For me, the real original GT40 is one of the most impressive vehicles in automotive history.

Glad I'm not the only one!

I couldn't do math too well but I could sure tell you what car was coming down the street!

I grew up in a small town an hour north of New York City, which could be considered countryside.

Ah yes, the Erator GTE. Germany's GT40.

The vehicles I get to work on almost seems unreal.

The GT40 project was my first major restoration that I was tasked with overseeing.

The car I worked on, P/1067 had a very interesting history where it started life as one of the original road cars, was part of a group of eight cars that were for Ford dealer promotions, to its time as a pace car. Then it was raced for a while then left in a garage from 1977 until about 2014.

Learning about the GT40 in general was fascinating. I had the opportunity to speak with apprentices that were at JWA when they were assembling the cars and they were able to offer a lot of insights into the smaller details that are often overlooked.
