Ha, that is pretty good. I'd love to see a computer program you could use to orchestrate a whole range of engines into a song.

I don't follow F1 too closely, tell me. Why is it the end of the V10 era??

Mostly because of politics, but there is still an official explanation. F1 engines in 2005 was V10s, and had to be 3 litre engine capacity. The fight for horsepower turned out to get potentially dangerous as Mercedes and Renault had well near 950 hp at the end of this season, perhaps even more. But few complained of engine power being dangerous.

Next year we have strict ruled 2.4 litre 90 degree V8's. It's insane how little development you can do for an engine when almost everything is defined by the rules. Official reason is they want reduced costs in F1. But manufacturers have to invest and cope with a new range of vibrations coming from V8s than the previous V10s, and more problems. It happens much in F1 behind doors, because it sometimes feel as the politics overshadows the fans, they play their own political game. Especially it's heated talks in the background of the rules and who's got how much TV-money. Manufacturers even threatens to start a new series in favour of F1, the GPWC. However fans are the important factor that sometimes is forgotten.

its really a shame that politics become such a big deal with this and i think that such rigid guidelines are not healthy for the sport. but i think its interesting to see some competition for a change

Mercedes and Renault had the most, at 950bhp?

Thats very suprising. I remember Honda, Ferrari, and BMW-Williams had the most at one time (900bhp). That is very interesting in hindsight.

I also just read that Cosworth had V10's over 900 bhp, I remember they were on the bottom just a couple years ago.

It's very much speculation, don't trust figures as any engine maker ceratainly never say the figures. Honda had for instance the goal on 1000hp at the end of the season, but it's only speculation. Renault and Mercedes was very quick away from corners and from start. But there is so much involved, TC-tuning and engine delivery. BMW Williams seemed just as quick when they had the speed up but they where incredible slow from start and from corners.
