Glad you got her going right again. Looks good.

The engine bay is almost spotless. A lot of the parts look new, and the intake manifold looks dressed up.

Geschrieben

yeah all the parts with the exception of the alternator, and tuneup items are 20 years old, the engine was never dressed though i did hand polish the runners, upper manifold and all other shiny aluminum. I painted the exhaust manifold back to stock but the high heat paint and the cast iron stain didn't hold up too well. As far as the polishing went imagine a bottle of Mother's Billet Polish and about 50 terry cloths. I have to do some fine tuning hence why the distributor is exposed. But she idles at 1200-1500 rpms and can take hairpin turns @ 95-105mph+. So far I have taken it up to 125mph, with a poorly tuned engine and old goodyear Gt+4 tires and she handles like a dream. I'd put her up against almost any Japanese Car on the street assuming the take off was around 90mph. It is funny because most older Vettes unless they are big blocks wont even run a track with me. I dont know whether its because they have less to equal power with me or because of the reputation the 1982-92 Camaro has built for being a TBI 305 with 2.73's and a 700R4 which equals high 16's on the 1/4.

Sorry about the rant I am bored.

Geschrieben

Funny, because the alternator is one of the things that look brand spanking new. You used to complain that the 305 didn't pack enough punch, but you seem very proud of the car's performance now. What happened?

Never mind ranting, it's good to see somebody talking here. :-))!

Geschrieben

Your right but I still want more, I'm continueing to build that 305, I have had one major snag, I have to hone the block because, water got into the #8 cylinder, rusting the cylinder walls and the valves in that cylinder, I am going to put a heavy flat tappet cam in it (Duration at 50: 220, 230). Possibly new heads. I am aiming for the 12's with a 305, and i can probably do it fairly cheaply, about 5K should do it and pick up an old t-56 to handle the torque. I hjave to go, next week I am going to try and see if I can set up a race with a WRX through out the powerband. 0-100. See how well I do. Later.

nice pics and mothers polish does rock, but your going to have to define 'hairpin'...

youve gone past bs with my definition of 'hairpin.' maybe thats what your speedo says as your roasting out out your tires coming out of the turn....

do you know what the wrx has done to it? if your going from a dig your definitely going to need some sticky tires

Geschrieben

hairpin turn equals about less than 100 degree turn to the right with trees all around, staying in your lane which is the inside lane with no shoulder, cars on the other lane who are very close to that yellow line, There is a yellow sign with a line that takes a 90 degree turn and below it it says 10mph.

I had to take it out of gear I was in fourth at the time but no power to the rear wheels that would be suicidal, my suspension has me bottoming out in parking lots, the tires were hitting the wheel wells during that race.

So imagine basically taking a right turn onto another road at 100mph and not losing it at all.

Tires are cheap Goodyear GT+4 P245/16 VR50's or something like that. Soft rubber but they come apart at 130mph.

hence why i love my chevy,

but I shall never condone my actions of the past few weeks, they have been extremely dangerous, and I almost got myself killed.

My buddy that I was racing that day was right behind me on another bad road, There was a mountain on oneside, ravine on the other, extremely curvy, full of pot holes, we were running 60ish I tried to go faster but slowed it down; the car didn't like it, around a curve a Eclipse convert came around the corner in my lane, dead center my lane about 40 to 50ft in front of me. I whipped it to the right and came a few inches from the mountain, but i hit a two foot deep pot hole instead, I thought literally this is it. I couldn't slow down my friend was drafting me, i tried to warn the guys in back of me with a caution signal but by the time the light flashed once he was already at them. he was about half way in the lane then and they hit their brakes when they saw my signal. Well as for me about 3/4's of my car was off the road I was starting to roll over at 60 to 70mph, the right front tire dropped quick enough and made me airborn(thank god). For about what felt like a minute and me shifting and getting ready to cause a 4 car pile up, I dropped it into third gear but left the clutch depressed, I held the steering wheel and turned as I skidded back on to the road at 60 mph and my suspension caught, floored it so I didn't get thrown into the ravine by my buddy. Those pics were taken last weekend this was two weeks ago, I just got alot of mud on the passenger side, no scratches. So I don't promote racing cars on the street, and for those of you with airbags and locking seat belts feel lucky. The death of a muscle car is usually very painful.

Geschrieben

yea, im going to have to tell you to take it to the track... that was pretty bad.

my definitely of hair pin is a right hand turn rightmost lane to rightmost lane on a city block, which is impossible for a formula car to take at 100mph

Hallo iroc-z89,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für US Cars (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

hey it did it, I was in neutral booking about ninety five to 100 through out the turn i was amazed at that the road was curved to hell but yes I should have slid right off the road but it stuck, quite nicely too, the car held but the suspension dropped real low, as i said my suspension which is clearly well above the tires, hit the tires and road on them, I never felt a loss of traction , other than the car shudder when the thires came in contact with the wheel wells. If i could back it up I would but I don't like pressing my luck, considering at the time tunnel vision was in, I dont wanna try that again I had a little bit more clearance than that but it was wasn't much more.

I am done with road racing unless it's on a road course , i dont mind spinning out and wrecking the car, but a head on scares the hell out of me.

Airbags...Airbags

as for the formula car it might be able to do it in right lane to second lane over if handled perfectly I would put my car on its side or lose the rear end

A two foot deep pot hole? You're lucky you didn't drill yourself all the way to China on that one. Risky business.

" Well the last thing I remember Doc, I started to swerve. And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve. I know I'll never forget that horrible sight, I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right.

Won't come back from Dead man's curve. "

i was scared as hell and right now I have a 85 Supra who wants a race, he is lighter has the same power but less torque, he wants to run it on twisty turning roads. Very few cars you can see for miles, any comments.

thats dumb. like i said before take it to the track.

what can your iroc do in the quarter mile anyway?

Geschrieben

Low 14's stock, though with the average driver 14.6-14.7. Putting the car sideways is extremely easy, even shifting into 3rd its not hard to do.

Geschrieben
any comments.

Well, aside from being a dangerous location ( twisty road, not closed to other cars ) racing in an old Camaro makes it even more so. The chance of either one of you clipping eachother is there too.

Challenging the Supra to a drag race in a huge empty parking lot would be a much more sane suggestion. Racing the way he wants would be really dumb for both of you - No go.

skippy, whats your best?

ive heard of some worked irocs totally twisting their frames for shifting to hard, i would be careful with that.

I have to find out this car has been in storage for years upon years, it has had 4 owners,. I was never given a timeslip, I have to find a strip near me. I based that off the few irocs that are built like mine, most of the cars with my options are stock but usually have an aftermarket ignition where as I rebuilt mine. Any one know of any tracks in the poconos, and how much is it to do a couple of runs?

Camaros and Firebirds dont have frames, they are built on a few pieces of sub-framing which completely holds them together. Hence why you have to have a death wish to race them, fast cars handle real well but you have to able to drive, and handle like your an indy driver. This will help you understand why, this was after I had just raced mine and took that sharp curve at 95mph.

Two people died and a third was critically injured Monday night in a three-car crash near 52nd Street and Ames Avenue.

The front half of one of the vehicles involved in Monday's crash at 52nd Street and Ames Avenue.

Police and rescue squads were called to the intersection about 10:30 p.m.

Few details were available early today, although investigators were beginning to piece together what happened.

Omaha Police Lt. Dave Baker said an officer observed a Chevrolet Camaro racing another car, heading west on Ames, at more than 70 mph.

Baker said the officer called for help and monitored the cars as they passed 36th Street, running red lights as they neared 52nd Street.

At that intersection, the driver of the Camaro lost control of it, and the car went over the center island and collided with a pickup truck. A wooden pickup bed then struck an Oldsmobile Bravada.

The driver of the Bravada, Erica Fielding, said she saw part of the Camaro fly past her vehicle and down the street. The four people in the Oldsmobile were not injured.

The Camaro was torn in half, the pieces coming to rest more than 125 feet apart.

One person died at the scene and the other died at the Creighton University Medical Center.

Reason why I get a little scared when I get asked to race

Here is some more pics of why I get scared, i can handle my car but i can't control death. http://www.camarosource.ca/main_new_site.php?url=new_site/wrecks/wrecks.htm

I'm not too familiar with the Pennsylvania area, but how about Pocono Raceway? www.poconoraceway.com There are probably others around that are smaller.

Those pics are depressing. Reminds me of the night last February when I saw a man pinned beneath his flipped over pickup in a pool of blood, with mariachi music still pumping on the stereo. He and his dead passenger ran a stop sign and were broadsided by a minivan, but it sounded like a train wreck.

The way the Camaro is constructed in parts makes it look like a total death trap. I ran across this photo and wondered what was up with the cowboy boots.
