Nice, I saw an article about it in Car and Driver. There will be a 480-500 hp V10 engine in it. This should be a great thing to come.

Geschrieben

450-500 hp. V10? This would raise the price substantially, which is really pretty bad. It was a 44k car.

It really sucks when these reletively inexpensive performance cars lose their way and jump into the big dollar category. They lose some of their magic, regardless of their new found performance envelope. Just who are they trying to compete with here? They should find their place and stick to it.

Geschrieben

yea im with lnc. i guess they are trying to compete with a jap car with 4 less cylinders, as far as price goes. :???: i doubt itll feel as crisp as an nsx. itll probably be tubby and wont hook off the line, much like the supras of the 90s.

whatever. i dont think that there will be anything worth while in it. most jap cars need turbos. O:-)

that wing is GHEY

Geschrieben

V10?? :D uhhhhh no.

The base is supposed to be some sort of stringed out V6 and the top of the line is supposedly said to be either a high-revving V8 or a turbo'd V8.

It's looking sexy and exotic.

Since when is $44,000 for a car NOT cheap??? That's not inexpensive, if you ask me $44,000's is expensive.

They said they're trying to not get it above of what it use to cost when it was in production.

Geschrieben

I'm just saying what I read from Car and Driver. They said a 4.5 liter V10 producing 500 hp.

Geschrieben

tt v8 would be their best bet. but it still wont be able to break 12s without slicks!:lol::lol:

when we say something is expensive you have to consider everything else that is similar. compared to a corvette? same price range. but will the performance be the same? if it costs that much and performs like the z then its expensive, but if it performs like and is as comfortable as a gallardo(or 360cs hahahah  ) then its a steal.

but all that still really doesnt matter that much, cus that wing is so fruity!

Geschrieben

Come to think of it, that dinky wing is pretty ghey, it makes the car look like a designer hand bag  . Purely for testing I imagine.

A 44k car is not "cheap" like a Neon, this is true, but it's still very attainable, and it's all reletive like Bleh pointed out. A V10 could easily jump the cost up well past the 60-70k mark. That's when things begin to get seriously expensive. A factory Supra should not cost that much. Even a V8 or a V-anything seems like a corruption. A straight-six GT is the only way to go, or it's not a Supra.

And with the way Toyota builds those sixes, you won't ever need a V8 to get Grande power out of the Supra. But, since Toyota is phasing out I-6's, the last Supra - was probably the last Supra. :-?

They aren't producing a V10 model. That car in the spyshot is just their mule, carrying a V-10 500HP. Just think of it as a concept car whos full concepts never make it to the market, like always.

I'm sure a V-6 or V-8 TT is more believeable. The old Supras were I-6? Why are they straying away from it?

Geschrieben

I'm not sure this is a Supra. How do you guys know this won't be a Lexus?

Hallo skyline_r34v,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Andere Automarken (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

Toyota seems to have it in their minds that the straight layout is outdated, and they don't want to develop a new I-6.

The claims of a mid-engined V10 car have been pretty strong. The engine is said to be a calaboration between Toyota and Yamaha, not based on Toyota's own F1 engine. It's even been suggested that Toyota would wait until their F1 racing fortunes are looking up to introduce something like this.

Probably not a Lexus, since that's a luxury division ( although exactly what a luxury car is has been a little blurred over the years ). Toyota is the main brand, and would benefit the most from a halo supercar.

Geschrieben

Well, I was thinking Lexus, as most people in America have ceased to think of Toyota as having a "real" sports car. SC430 is offered under the Lexus brand, and that is a pretty sporty car, as it comes with a 3UZ-FE.

I have heard talk of a Tundra based V8 then bored and stroked down to 5.3 liters and then twin turboed witch would have mad amounts of power

Geschrieben

It is possible.

It will probably be a V8 based on one of their trucks, or a V6 turboed.

V8's from trucks are very reliable and have high amounts of torque ususally. Take example from Ford they put a 5.4 liter V8 from one of its trucks, and supercharged it. The engine I'm talking about, is we all know in the Ford GT.

So that might not be far off.

The truth is, no one knows what engine will be used, outside of Toyota.

How about this:

Source - Autoweek

A few months ago when our spies first spotted this camouflaged coupe with the giant rear wing (Oct. 18), our informants tagged it as the next Toyota Supra, possibly dubbed TXS, or some wild high-end Lexus sports car. Turns out the latter could prove true, and we’ll get to see the hardware in a few weeks at the Detroit auto show when Lexus rolls out the conceptual version of the test car shown here.

Look for the Lexus LF-A exotic sports car concept to signal a new styling direction for Toyota’s somewhat stodgy luxury division, along with hints of a production car with serious sporting credentials: a 500-hp, 370-lb-ft V10, less than 3000-pound curb weight, top speed of 190 mph, and pricing in excess of $100,000. Toyota plans to produce 12,000 copies, going on sale in late 2006 following the production car’s Tokyo premiere.

Well, we'll have to wait to see how the CD was accurate.

I find the back quite sick.

I talked to the GM of toyota motor sales in the nothern california region and he would not say what engine would be used but he said all of the GM's in America would go to Japan in September of 2004 to vote on the idea of a new supra and it is now come true thru these spy photos. Why do you think they are killing the Celica off next year? So Viva La Supra

Geschrieben

They are killing the Celica??? WTF for? That is incredibly stupid on their part. What are they going to do about the cheap performance cars??

Are they going to replace the Celica with the Scion TC or what??

Geschrieben

they are killing the celica because it looks like crap and it is underpowered like fuck and hopefuly they will give the new supra a powerplant to give the new Z06 a run for its money

And the Tc is a way better car then the celica

Geschrieben

No No No, the Celica is not crap and will always be a better car than that Scion crap that Toyota is somewhat foolishly banking on. But to answer the question, the Scion which has yet to prove itself sporty at all, is supposed to replace the Celica.

General managers voting on whether there should be a new Supra, like they are the final word on what sells. Obviously not.

Geschrieben

Celicas were never that powerful. The truth is a Toyota Corolla could give it a run for its money, maybe even a Solara. I'm pretty sure both over power the Celica. I love the styling of the Celica, very aggressive, very sharp, I just wished they put some kind of power in the car. This is pretty much a sport car that can be tuned, by aftermarket parts.

Geschrieben

Try the Celica GT4 All-Trac. AWD+3S-GTE, tell me that's slow.
