a lot has to do with gearing and aerodynamics. Larger cars are often geared taller. A 7 series wants to feel more relaxed, a 5 series want to feel more sporty. On the highway, the gearing makes a difference. Some of it is each test. You can't replicate the same drive, so small differences like that aren't that big.

The VLB is a very efficient engine. Did any of you guys look at the site? Check out the numbers, especially the RPMs.

I don't know, I'm pretty sure all kinds of ideas have been around at different carmakers.... There have been dramatic improvments in enginetechnology, the fact that diesels are more efficient now means that more and more cars have diesels in them. As I have experienced Audis with only 140 hp but 350 Nm I know why they are popular!

I'm unsure about the VLB engine, there is some factors not involved. Where does the energy go after it reach that high rpm?

Well, I better not comment this as I don't know much about it... is something good banned? I doubt that.

It may be a motorcycle engine, but the engine in the Ducati 999R, has 150 hp/liter, amd 116 nm/liter. It has only two cylinders.

RC car engines hav more I can tell you!

Put that Ducati engine in a 1300 kg car I I tell you the fuelconsumption skirises compared to an equally strong carengine.

With an RC engine, you're talking next to no rotating mass compared to the reletively massive force of the combustion inside the cylinder.

A good motorcycle engine in a very light car, you can't help but get good mileage. It's a very smart idea.

hmm, I guess so...

What about a Honda Goldwing 1500 cc 6 cylinder boxer engine, smooth!

actually, a motorcycle engine in a small car would not get good mileage. Motorcycle engines are tweaked for performance. Motorcycles are tiny, and don't get better mileage than a civic. Go figure that one.

I do have to say RC Car engines do not offer that great of an example for specific power or torque, too small. A 124.8cc go-kart eninge from brp-rotax (engine manufacturere for aprilia motorcycles) creates 264 hp/l. Snowmobile engines are a good example. An Artic-Cat F5 creates 105 hp, and is only 499cc, that comes out to 210 hp/l. A BLADE Snowmobile created 148 hp, and 85 ft. lbs. (114.75 nm) of torque in a 800cc engine developed by Polaris. Thats 185 hp/l, and 106.25ft. lbs./l (143.4375 nm/l).

Motorcycle engine's are tuned for performance, but this depends entirely on what kind of performance you're talking about. A sport bike motor would not be the best choice for mileage, but a motor such as the one mentioned above from a Honda Goldwing - which is a cruiser - would be ideal for this.

As an example, a 2001 Honda Goldwing with it's smooth SOHC 1,832cc flat-six and a dry weight of nearly 800 lbs. is able to return 55 mpg - with rider and almost 40 lbs. of fuel and other liquids I presume. Now place that same engine in a small city car that is maybe 1,000 lbs. or less, and it makes sense. The benefits are there. At the very least, having your car be motorcycle powered eases up the maintenance a bit.

Hallo Speedster25,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Verschiedenes über Autos (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.
