I just want someone to do what McLaren did. Set a benchmark, that can't be reached for 10+ years. McLaren set the standard with the F1. And still hasn't been beaten. It is the greatest no doubt about that. But there needs to be change. I'm just surprised with the new technologies that it's taking as long as it has. I also remember that McLaren used a BMW engine from its motorsport division. The SLR McLaren in my mind underperformed to me. Give it more power and less weight, and better aerodynamics, and it would have scorched.

My advice to McLaren is, do it again. BMW motorsport is the best, their F1 engines are the most powerful along with Honda, combined with McLaren aerodynamics. Or Ferrari F1 use some of their designs or a specially designed engine. That would make sure no one would challenge their top speed. Create an engine off the F1 engine.

Its about time, for change. But I really I have to applaud McLaren for setting the bar so high.

i dont know man i wouldnt call that thing a pos. sure its over priced but.... i think its faster than most of the cars that are owned by people on this bored. with exception to my car of course

It's not necessarily a piece of shit but the hype everybody surrounds around that pathetic car makes me sick. It's nothing anymore and everybody still acts like it's the best supercar out there ever. There's tons of cars out there that spank it in quickness handling and beauty.

Geschrieben
It's natural that the F1 would at some point be surpassed in ultimate speed, I don't think any of the cars mentioned have what it takes to endure like the McLaren has. It wasn't just a top speed car, but a complete racer, a total package with predigree, and constructed in world-class fashion.

The Chrysler ME-412 will most likely never happen. It was more of a publicity stunt than a serious consideration.

What I hate about the McLaren F1 is a damn Toyota Celica GT-S and Acura RSX-S have a better skidpad rating as the F1. Then it has the same skidpad rating as the Dodge Ram SRT-10, how pathetic can you get??

I know skidpad isn't everything but it tells you what the car is capable of. The handling is completely horrible, it has understeer out the ass and even a strong case of oversteer.

Geschrieben

It isn't that bad of a skidpad. Its .86g. Sure that doesn't allow a lot of error, but it shows that if you want to have one of these cars, you have to be an exceptional driver. It isn't that bad.

If any car manufacturer can do it, if the Orca and Koenigsegg fall short of 240 mph, is Ferrari. The Enzo is amazing. Yea, it only reaches 217 mph, but get the weight down 700 pounds, and it will get 240+. In my mind the Koenigsegg based on power figures and weight can get 250 mph, same with the Orca.

By the way, have any of you heard of the Dauer 962 LeMans?, that is one that can come close too. But it never went into production. Only a couple are out there.

<----scratches head.

umm weight does not directly affect top speed. the only way weight could affect top speed at all is in static friction upon the tires from the added weight. however, more friction would be put through to the tires with additional downforce, making weight hold even less of a standing in topspeed. weight really only affects how quickly you can get to that topspeed.

the two major factors that dictate top speed (this is grossly simplified mind you) are:

1)available torque

2)friction(from tires and air)

it is also important to note that the cd is only one part of what it takes to consider wind resistance. the other is the frontal area of the vehicle. which is self explanitory

You beat me to it Bleh.

For a car that you're paying $1,200,000-$1,500,000 for it better have a near 1g skidpad rating. It's a horrible handler and you shouldn't have to be a musuclar Shumacher in order to handle a car.

By the way, have any of you heard of the Dauer 962 LeMans?, that is one that can come close too. But it never went into production. Only a couple are out there.

I'm pretty sure most everybody knows about the Dauer 962 LM.

True, the F1 was, and is expensive as hell, but that money was going somewhere good because it was a racing champion, and is still faster than spit almost 12 years later. A lot can be said for the shear quality of it's construction, and it seats 3 people, before the McLaren, what supercar ever did that?? I would pay $1,000,000 ( probably more like 850k now ) for one before I would ever consider 3/4 of that on some Enzo which is clearly factory markup. Check this out, doesn't seem like such a bad deal anymore - http://www.qv500.com/adsvendorf1gtr.htm

I don't. O:-)

God dammit, did any of you guys read my post? I had a link to information on that car. It did go into production, only a few units were built, and they had no comfort whatsoever. They made the F1 look like an Maybach. Dauer is in fact another bullshitter, don't discuss them. 730 horsepower my ass. They actually claimed higher specs than the race version with a lesser engine. The Schuppan 962 claimed far more realistic figures, you can even ask Alain de Cadenet about that, he has driven one. He didn't even mention the Dauer.

By the way, cd and frontal area are directly related, try this site http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/dragco.html

Geschrieben

God dammit? Westside, are you peeved? Anyway, about this Dauer, and Schuppan or whatever, these are way out in left field. It's not hard to make a one off ( or an xx off ) that is fast as hell. Production, and street legal are the keywords of this game.

And yes, Cd and frontal area are related in that they both relate to how a car cuts through the air, but they are two different elements.

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Andere Automarken (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

That's still $1,292,352 but at least it's the GTR version. I don't have a problem with the GTR's and LM version because that's where the regular F1 and the GT versions SHOULD be but they aren't. If I had my Koenigsegg CC8S and CCR, Novitec F360 F1 SS and Lambo Diablo 6.0 SE then i'd probably get the GTR after all my other favorite supercars were bought.

Yeah, I definitely hear that. There is a 2003 Ferrari Enzo on Ebay for $1,000,000 and starting bid was $500,000. Some of these people are just idiots and have to much money to waste.

2003 Ferrari Enzo...clicky me

Okay, what currency translator were you using?

Something I think is funny about that Ebay ad, they say " a steering wheel jammed with buttons and readouts. "

Okay, I see eight buttons, and no readouts.

Isn't £ mean a british pound?? I figured since it was being sold in UK it was by british pound.

Probably because he's a freaking retard.

Geschrieben

Yeah, that's a British pound, I just thought it was amusing that you had the translation down to the last shilling. Though, it seems a little inflated to me, I think 695,000 British pounds would be more like 1 million dollars. Although you might be right.

Also, about the Ebay ad, it's funny to see a million dollar Ferrari backed up into a corner like a piece of furnature. And I think the bid went down since yesterday. $919,350 isn't enough to put that thing in your garage, what are they smoking?? X-)

Geschrieben

I wouldn't pay anymore than $450,000 for an Enzo.

Granted it's an awesome supercar but no car is worth over $500,000, no matter the performance, looks and how luxurious it is.

Geschrieben

Your estimate sounds about right, 450k. With no car ( with the possible exception of something super rare, like less than 10 made - but even still, first come first served. ) being worth more than 500k. $1,000,000 or less is enough to by a fine ass house, and a few fine ass cars to go in the garage. I would want the car itself to reflect the amount of money invested. With the Enzo, it just doesn't add up.

Pounds are the most overvalued unit of currency. Using the BMI (Big Mac Index) PPP then you will see that a pound is overvalued.

For example, suppose a Big Mac costs $2.00 in the United Kingdom and $2.50 in the United States; thus, the PPP rate is 2.00/2.50 = 0.8. If, in fact, the dollar buys £0.55, then the pound is over-valued with the respect to the dollar.

Pretty good argument towards that, because it holds on many other goods, such as cars :)

Cd is related to frontal area in that Cd is related to the reference area.

Edit: the reserve still wasn't met on the Enzo, and its at 980,100 USD. Funny thing is I thought the Enzo was supposed to cost 650k.

Geschrieben

LNC, I like your picture of the 100 dollar bill next to the Enzo. Pretty funny. Also that Chappelle-Vice City thing was hilarious.

Geschrieben

Thanks, it's nice to know someone is rooting around for the less prominent threads.

I don't think the sellers of that Enzo on Ebay will ever find a buyer unless they lower their crazy expectations. Or unless a millionaire comes along who reeaally loves yellow.

Geschrieben

OMFG you'd be surprised LNC, there was a 2001 Porsche GT2 completely stock that sold on there for $380,000.

Geschrieben

That is quite funny, I've seen the race versions with 500+ hp sell for 105-125k at closeratio.

Geschrieben

why would anyone buy a GT2 for 380k, heck, you could have 2 and a 911S at that price. someone buying one for 380 sounds fallacious.

Geschrieben

Obviously someone who doesn't know a bushing from a ball bearing, had plenty of loot to waste, and wanted a GT2 yesterday, not today. Or maybe they just wanted a particular color combination really really bad, it might have been rare possibly?

Geschrieben

I don't know the reason why the idiot paid such an outlandish price for the GT2 but I guarantee you the seller didn't mind one bit HAHAHAHA.

Shit I wouldn't either if somebody bought the car for nearly twice as much as it's worth. :-))!
