I can't be the only one who thinks the greatest movie car chases happen in San Francisco can I? When I think of great movie car chases, I think of movies like Bullitt from 1968.

Steve McQueen in his Mustang turning the tables on a couple of bad guys in a black Charger, and hauling ass through SanFran, jumping all over the place.

Or how about Duel from 1971, the entire movie was a car chase.

I also think of Goldfinger. James Bond taking his famous Aston Martin DB5 for a spin in the Swiss Alps. Chasing a girl no less who is driving the first Mustang to be seen in a movie.

Is that cool or what? ...

Jade from 1995 is a sexual thriller, and also shows a good example of how to give a detective a workout through the streets of San Francisco of course.

the chase with the A8 in ronin is extremely good, no one can talk car chases without mentioning the french connection. Bad boys with the porsche was good, and the bad boys II with the 575M and boats on the bridge, as far-fetched, was very entertaining.

Can't leave out the Italian Job (original and recent), those Mini's got the job done. The cars in the original were far better, but I don't think any chases took place in them. The TVR sequence in Swordfish is amazing (also why I have a TVR today). Pretty much any Bond movie has a nice chase in it. I forget the name, but the one where James does a barrel roll over some river down south was incredible. And in Goldeneye (I think) when he races the girl in her 355, in his DB5, amazing.

the james bond car chases are too unrealistic, fast and the furious is cool, except generally all you see is rice. The bourne identity has a cool one with the mini, and the gone in 60 secconds is pretty cool.

I think they just made a remake of the French Connection as an excuse to showcase the new Mini Cooper going crazy, seriously.

I don't know about all the Bond chases being unrealistic, but the DB5 running head to head with the 355 seems a bit far fetched, that was a cool game of revolving cat and mouse though.

As mentioned, check out Duell, if you ever wanted to know what Dennis Weaver would look like scared shitless behind the wheel of a Duster while being chase by a psychotic trucker for the whole movie, you have to see this.

i saw that movie, that was psycho man.

and there are a dozen reasons to remake the french connection. the new mini doesn't have the soul of the old one, it might have slick moves, it just doesn't feel the same. And last time i checked, i couldn't buy a car that shoots missiles from the headlights, bond chases - highly unlikely.
