has anyone here ever autocrossed? i have gone a few times and it was awesome. most recently i took 2nd place in my class. i lost to a mid 944 turbo S ( i think) with race tires by .005 seconds. i would have won if i didnt let off because i thought i took a penalty. behind me was a 2002 M3, 96 M3 and another 350z. the 96 m3 had some serious understeer. i was amazed, i didnt think they had a problem with that. anyway, anyone ever done it?

the person who tuned the 96 M3's suspension must have been a moron.

i was in B stock . which is stock cars, except you can change intake exhaust, and tires. i just have intake. i think both m3s were stock, the porsche had tires, and the other 350z had exhaust.

i went autoxing for the first time a few weeks ago. definitely fun, but the waiting is a bit annoying considering you only drive for like 8 minutes but you are there for 6 hours. my rear shocks were blown so i would actually over stear, which is an unusual concept in a civic. its still very fun though.

having trouble oversteering seems so funny to me. My 318i has a serious issue with getting into oversteering too hard, but i actually have a rear weight bias (the battery has been relocated to the trunk, my A/C and PS have been pulled from under the hood, which contributed to a calculated 48.5/51.5 weight distro on my BMW), anyhow, i have to stay off the power or else i tail out like wild (even off the power sometimes), it's just nice not having any understeer to speak of. I drove an acura RSX Type-S once, and that had a bit of oversteer in it, which impressed me for a front heavy front driver. I think an RSX wouldn't be bad as a front drive auto-crosser.

if you want your 318 to regain some balance just get a stiffer front sway bar. you wont be sacraficing much ride comfort unless your turning real hard, in which case you shouldnt worry about comfort anyway. that is unless you like the oversteer.:)

the rsx type s has a very stiff rear sway bar which gives it that little bit of rotation around turns. the same was true for itrs, which is why im really considering getting an itr swaybar for my car...didnt mean to rhyme.

front are rear sway bars with reinforced mounts and delran bushings are on my list, along with strut/shock braces. My reasoning is squelching body roll in the front, and keeping my rear taught. I accidentally ruined my rear springs (oops) by putting, oh, 1,400lbs of building materials in the rear half of my car. Springs too are on the list. The handling will be very nice after a little tweaking, but i'm getting better at managing the oversteer, which can be fun. I flew my BMW off a burm because i lost control due to oversteer midcorner. Miraculously, my passenger, my car, and myself came out all undamaged - after sailing through the air. It was a miracle. I missed a construction barrier by under a foot.

damn... well glad to hear you are ok. how was the car after that? aside from suspension.

my shocks took a hell of a beating. I chipped a big piece out of a cooling fin on my oil pan from the landing (it's aluminum), my suspension arms are all iron, so i got lucky there. I had to deflate my tires, peal back to the bead and get ass-loads of grass and rocks, and other debris out before the tires would hold pressure again. I also got over a gallon of dirt in my car (i measured after shop-vacing it all out), you can tell the windows and sunroof were open. My freind claimed to have hit his hand on the door, i told him to shut up and never heard about his hand again :D .

crap, it is good to hear your ok though.

did you gut your spare and jack from the rear to try to get back to the 50/50?

Hallo djfux69,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für Verschiedenes über Autos (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

i sorta like it a bit rear heavy. It was 50:50 (or very close) when i just moved the battery back, but pulling power steering and A/C tipped it back again.

I'm a bit paranoid to rip the spare, but i've been thinking about it.

Geschrieben

AAA or near by friends are good for a flat. i would take out the spare before taking out the powersteering. even in a rwd car.

Geschrieben

i guess. I already have two sets of wheels for that car, so i'm going to have make room for the spare (i've got more junk than can be believed). I'm still paranoid, but i guess i can put it back for long trips?

I pulled the power steering because i didn't like the overboosted steering. It's a lot cleaner this way. I need to replace a bushing on the linkage. i can feel it! :D
