In a Civic? That's pushing it. One of the biggest mistakes people make when they run from cops is they do it in a rusty pickup or a hatchback with no juice. You were fortunate, I suggest you use a faster car in the furure. Good job though! :P

Okay this may seem like an odd question, but why is it that in the US the copcars do not have photo cameras? I mean just sitting on the side of the road waiting for somebody to come racing along and then pull out and race after that person is a really ineffective way.

Lemme explain how it works over here.

The cops have 2 kinds of mobile speedtraps. The first is where a copcar sits on the side of the road with a built-in camera or a camera on a tripod. When the radar detects you are speeding *FLASH* and the ticket follows. If you are 40km/h over the speedlimit or you are driving dangerously then they will call in for backup. Somebody will stop you down the road and escort you to jail.

The second is where they have a cop stand on the side of the road, behind a tree, pole or bush with a radar/ladar gun. Down the road there are motorcycle cops and a roadblock. If you decide to run, which is a very bad idea, then those motorcycle cops will eat your tires for breakfast.

We also have camera's along the sides of the road which patch into a commandcenter somewhere. They can see just about anything and take action accordingly. When they spot somebody doing some dangerous driving they immediatly call up the Porsche squad and with in minutes those Porsche 911's will escort you to jail.

In any case they have your licenceplate so running won't do you any good, it will only make matters worse because they know where to find you.

The Dutch gov takes their speeding voilations very seriously, I've even heard of some cases where the Dutch Royal Guard (Koninklijke Marechaussee or KMAR for short) had to arrest foreign NATO soldiers because of their voilations. You don't want to mess with the KMAR, those guyz take their job very seriously and are armed to the teeth. If you've ever been on any dutch airport you've probably seen those guyz with 2 Glock 12's, an UZI and an MP5-10 walk around, that's some serious hardware to walk around with.

The USA is huge on civil liberties. Most of the socialist simplifications to bueracracy and law enforcement would go against our strong sense of absolutism in justice. Thus, the cop must know who is driving the vehcile. Furthermore, it has i believe been found not legal to have radar cams in the USA (possibly unconstitutional, I'll have to look into it). The cop cars do by the way have video cameras, some of them have a system that has the video camera follow radar targets.

i know! if there was no traffic or if the exit was any further i would never ever have risked it.

as far as the dutch traffic enforcement: ouch!

one time in drivers ed i was driving the 97ish ford contour and pulled up to the light next to a monte carlo. i knew the jerk in it, and he sees me and starts revving his engine. when the light goes green i punch it and get about 3-5 car lenghts ahead and then the drivers ed teacher slammed on the break and chewed me out but oh well

in driver's ed? why man, why? I drove slower than I have ever driven in my life back when I took driver's ed. Then it was a chev corsica, 4 cylender no less. I couldn't have beaten anyone anyhow.

Are you kidding? In the U.S. it still comes down to good ol' fashion Dukes of Hazard tactics! :P

" Git em' Flash, Ghg Ghg Ghg! "... Whatever.

dude i've been driving trucks and tractors since i was like 8, drivers ed was boring, and like i said, the kid with the monte carlo was a jerk

my mom taught me to drive at 8, taught me to drive stick at 14. I also took my dad's alfa for a joyride at 14. Driver ed was boring, but the geeyser needed to sing off on me, so I took no chances.

i was driving a stick before i was driving an automatic. and i never needed to take a car for a joy ride, i have a couple of acres out back that i can do whatever on :)

Geschrieben

see, you had acres out back where no one gave a damn.

I grew up in suburbia. The closest thing to acres out back I had was a 150' driveway.

pretty much, until my brother wrecked the ranger

Geschrieben

wow, wrekced a ranger, acres outback, y'all were rednecks.

Geschrieben

y'all are rednecks. Folks into big loud american cars. A lot of my freinds talk about the same things. They all like big loud things, usually guns, you know.

Geschrieben

there is no problem with guns, and a four banger 83 ranger only running og 3 cylinders isn't that loud

Yes, I have a kill story. I once killed 8 dudes in this joint. Man I just took out the .22 and wasted the entire gang... oh, wait, that's not what you meant! Was it?! Uh! Oh! You want "kill stories"! OK. I see. Umm, hmm, err, eee, uh, no, I don't have one.

Geschrieben

you waisted them with a .22? they must have been unarmed.

i've got a glock 9mm with a 17round long clip that's fully compensated (it's just a fun gun for practice shooting with, it's easy and get's the job done), and i've got .357 magnum glock, bought special, used previously by law enforcement. It packs a hell of a punch.

A buddy of mine has a 45, but it has kick back like hell, isn't easy to grip that well, and isn't that impressive for accuracy (i told him not to buy an american gun, just like cars, the best are german)

Geschrieben

Forget the clip being compensated, you better be prepared to compensate if you miss that target and hit somebody.

And to justfiy this as a post belonging on a car site, I'll add this ... Boy, that Toronado was something else huh?

Geschrieben

I didn't mean to get things this far off-topic. But if we're gonna talk monster weapons, why don't you guys go all the way and find a stolen military-grade gun like an M49? A .22 caliber CAN get the job done, but if you're insanely into this stuff, buy a 50-cal. and you can poke holes through the entire neighbourhood. The only guns I own are bb-guns.

Geschrieben

yeah, buy some ex military gun black market, get arrested, have a criminal reccord. That's smart.

I'm 6'4" and doubt i could fire a 50mm machine gun with any degree of accuracy. Those things are fricking HUGE and kick like a donkey.

and i only play with my guns at the shooting range.

i once had someone pull on a gun on me in their car after racing once. That was all it took to sell me on keeping my guns locked someone inconvienient to get to. If i had it in my car, i just might be dead.

Anyhow, big mouth will get you that.

.

My clip isn't compensated. The gun has compensation ports. No kickback.

But my buddy who drives the redneck truck keeps a 12 gauge in the backseat of his truck.

he says he can fire it one arm.

anyways, what's better '04 SVT Lightening or Dodge Ram SRT-10.

I give my vote to lightening, indapendant rear suspension, supercharged V8 that winds all the way up, and it has a history, no new car problems, anyone disagree?

nope

he says he can fire it one arm.

bruised my arm doing that once :) it was an accident, i was shooting skeet and i tripped, and i dropped my one arm and the gun slipped from my shoulder and got to my bicept before it went off and it hurt like crap

But my buddy who drives the redneck truck keeps a 12 gauge in the backseat of his truck.

at my school, most everbody who drives a truck has at least one gun hanging in the back window of their truck. and nobody cares, even at school :)
