Hasslichste Autos

- 1975 AMC Pacer (looks like an upturned fruitbowl)

- 1991 Alfa Romeo SZ (looks like it's falling apart, but sublime to drive)

- 2001 BMW 7er (if we were Jag dealers, we'd buy one ... and park it next to our XJ demonstration vehicle)

- 1961 Citroën Ami 6

- 1999 Pontiac Aztec

- 1999 Toyota Yaris (trendy to college kids, obviously paid for by pensioner parents)

- 2000 Morgan Aero 8 (must have been a struggle to making a '30s shape into something with vaguely tolerable aerodynamics)

- 1999 Hyundai Santa Fe

Most overhyped cars

- Renault Clio V6 (mid-engined V6 with reduced power and programmed understeer to keep it on the road - Clio Sport 172 is as quick and € 15.000 cheaper)

- Maserati 3200 GT (over-firm ride, uncomfortable seats and quality issues ... money is better spent elsewhere)

- Mercedes Vaneo (lifestyle Mercedes ? no, just an shamelessly overpriced ugly van with silly clutchless gearchange)

- Jaguar XJ220 (they promised a 4WD V12, but start of a recession brought us a V6 RWD)

- Honda NSX (Ferrari from Honda, a very good car but criminally overhyped)

- Bugatti Veyron (a car that is the answer to a quenstion no one asked ... can't do 200mph without changing the tyres ... McLaren did better)

- BMW 850i (overweight and overshadowed by the 6-Series)

Who would have thought ?

- Rover still going

- MINI being a big hit second time around

- no Mitsubishi in the 2003 WRC

- most succesful and innovative car companies in Europe are French

- new BMW 5-series not universally praised

- nw XJ looks like old XJ

- Ferrari Enzo = slower than McLaren F1

Most inappropriate car names

- Mitsubishi Carisma : has none

- VW Beetle 1.6 : more like a snail

- BMW 3-series Coupé : it isn't really a coupé

- Ford Fiesta : hardly a party

- Chrysler Neon : dim

- Honda Legend : in what sense ?

- Mercedes Vaneo Trend : call the fashion police

- Porsche Cayenne : the name "Cayenne" is appropriate, the othe one isn't

- McLaren F1 : still unsurpassed

- Porsche Boxter : best all-round

- Renault Clio V6 : scariest (the parts added up te less the whole)

- MINI Cooper S (so good you can't help grinning)

Glorious Failures

- DMC Delorean (promised to be quick and stylish...)

- Subaru SVX (great car, better than a XJS at that time, but let down by Subaru's "farmer's favourite" image)

- Bugatti EB110 (monster car, stylish, fast and luxurious ... now reborn in the shame of the Edonis)

- TVR Speed Twelve (so quick that they didn't release it, fearing what could happen if it made it to public roads)

- BMW Z8 (beautiful, powerful, a classic ... but James Bond's car of choice, underwhelming dynamics and overpriced)

- Suzuki X90 (no boot, no 4WD, no credibility, no point. But luckily, Barbie drives it)

Fastest cars

- Thrust SCC : 1227 km/h

- McLaren F1 : 386 km/h

- Pagani Zonda : 370 km/h

- Ferrari Enzo : 348 km/h

naja... der Mc Laren ist eben ein richtiger sportwagen mit einem richtigen motor und richtig klasse...

der Veyron wäre und hätte das alles gerne. sie würden besser gerade das VW zeichen draufpappen anstatt einen solchen stolzen namen zu missbrauchen.

Zur Info: Der XJ-220 ist von Jaguar und very british und Lotus gehörte bis Ende 2002 noch zu 10% einer Investorengruppe um Romano Artioli, dem ehemaligen Bugatti (Neu-) Gründer..

Genau. Jedoch hat Kazuya auch recht : Car Magazine ist immer ein McLaren F1 Promokatalog geblieben. Ist zwar einer der besten Sportwagen überhaupt, aber ich glaube da ist auch ein bissl Liebe (statt Objektivität) dabei. Anderseits ist es auch so, das kein Autoblatt der McLaren derart viel testen könnte, also vielleicht ist die Liebe ganz zurecht.

Wo ich das gelesen habe weiss ich doch wie niveauvoll der Rest ist. Von Geschmack zeugt dieses Statement nicht - weil der E38 nun wirklich nicht hässlich ist.

vielleicht meinen sie den E65 und haben sich einfach im jahr geirrt... dann könnte ich nur zustimmen. ansonsten muss ich einfach mal sagen, dass mir nie in den sinn kommen würde einen E38 gegen einen XJ zu tauschen nur schon allein deshalb, weil ich von einem auto der 5m klasse schon einen bequeme und gute sitzposition erwarte

Nein, "Car" hat Recht. Der 7er E65 kam im Jahre 2001 auf den Markt.

Wenn ich mich noch Recht entsinne im November, da war ich auch auf der Präsentation und kurz darauf fuhren schon die ersten rum...
