I don't get where you're trying to go. Diesel engines have always had high torque at low revs. Thats a diesel characteristic and that's why trucks and tractors and such (which need to pull alot of weight) use diesel engines rather then gasoline engines.

But since you bring it up, the BMW 3.0d engine does not develop 500nm, it develops 410nm @ 1500rpm. The Mercedes 3.0CDI engine develops 540nm @ 2000rpm.

The BMW 3.0d is a 6 cylinder turbo diesel while the MB 3.0CDI is a 5 cylinder NA.

I'm getting the impression that TaxiDriver doesn't know what he's talking about because it's not "Common-real" but "Common-rail" another inovation developed by Mercedes btw.

Once again, stop crying about MB limiting the torque on the 65 cars. They don't do it "constantly" they just did it once on the 65 cars. 1200nm is enough torque to power industrial drilling equipment, not every piece of metal can handle that. I'm getting tired of people wining about the torque limiter, just be amazed they can pull it off with a gasoline engine. There's a difference between 500nm and 1200nm which is almost 2 1/2 times greater.

The turbos on a RS6 aren't used for boost. They're not much greater then my fist and they're just there to get more air into the chamber, to ensure efficienter combustion. Not like the turbos on a Skyline which are almost as big as the engine block itself.
