AutoWeek 2 Feb 04

In other hot Euro-designer news, reports are surfacing that soon after the Geneva motor show launch of the BMW 1 Series, Chris Bangle will move on after 11 years as BMW design maestro. But rather than leaving, Bangle reportedly will move up a spot to be in charge of design for all of BMW, Rolls-Royce and Mini. If that occurs, someone will be hired to take Bangle's spot in BMW design, and many of the rustlings stem directly from the prospect of the choice BMW design post being available. So far, BMW declines comment.

Rest assured, some or all of this will be answered by the time we leave the Geneva show.

Anything to get Bangle out of the designer's seat. Put him in some executive position where he is out of the way, and can't do much harm.

Either way, there will be a new head designer for BMW, hopefully for the better.

I saw a new 5-series yesterday and I really liked it. It's pretty agressive looking from any (b)angle :)

The 7 looks bad, but the 5 is ok now, at least for me.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They can't give Bangle a higher position in the firm! He has done enough! He has made some good cars, but the design is a bit to special! Get rid of him! Once and for all!

I agree, I've seen it before. Wanna get rid of someone rather politely... promote him... hoping that he'll fell confortable there and leave what he was doing to soemeone that does it better.

In the old days when the Dutch Royal Phoneservice was a government service they had alot of money. They had this special department called "servicing". Everybody who they actually wanted to get rid off but couldn't they promoted to the servicing department.

Nobody actually knew what the servicing department did, but it was full of lamers who didn't do their job or assholes who had no social communication abilities.

Kinda reminds me of this situation :)
