One fo the worst thigns that could happen to my beast, second to being obliterated in a car crash. yes my engine is ruined. i turned on the car, and when i went o open the trunk, it wouldnt open and stuff so yea it was kinda werid. so i decided to drive it to bmw to be looked at. then i started driving, and the seat adjuster wouldnt adust, well the manual ones did but not teh auto ones, the mirrors in the rear vision mirrors where moving up and downa dn side ot side by its self. then the ABS light went on and off. then a enigne trouble red light or the oil light thing came on im not sure. well stupid me i thought it was the electrics getting all messed up since everything else was messed.so i tried to ignore it, drivng the car slow to bmw, just a couple of blocks more. the engine turned off when i stopped at a red light. one more block. so then i turn it on, and drive it to bmw. then a couple of day later i realized i f*kin ruined my own engine! one ofteh bolts in the bottom of the oil pump fell off, and it shouldnt do that only like yugos do that sutff. so then the camshaft got all damaged and same with the chain. so now i have to get a new engine. i was thinking of maybe just buying a new car all together, a cl 600 seemed attractive. but then now i decided i wanted to keep it its too nice of a car. so now the engine replacement is gonna cost 24,000 CAD and 3/4 of that to repair the damage. this sux major arse man.

BUT, i was thinking for a bit before this happened to do up the car, maybe turbo chargers, or superchargers. but now its falling into place. I have a busted engnine. so now im going to buy a korman performance stage 2 850csi motor and fit it nicely into the wonderful 850Ci, or i guesws once its done with a custom 850CSi. it costs about 22 grand US, which is about 30,000 CAD, which included automatic tranny chisp to bettter suit the extra muscle this babys gonna have. and its worth it.

BMW 5.4l 24valve V12 (old):

326 hp@5000rpm

361 ft lbs@3900rpm

0-100km - 6.3s.

price: $24,000CAD

Korman Stage 2 BMW Motorsport 5.6l 24 valve V12 (new):

425 hp@????rpm

470 ft lbs@????rpm

0-100km - in a very short amount of time. (?.?s)

price: $30,000 CAD

seems worth it to me. oh ya with this new engine, although it has auto tranny chips, should i maybe swap transmissions from automatic to manual transmission? would it give it more umph. but i dono i like the semi auto in my 8. as long as a 6th gear is added and the 1st gear is avaibiable to use. the 850Ci auto has form 2nd gear to 5th gear. its nice not but amazing. but no matter wha tim goign to make sure theres a 1st and sixth gear. i wanan beat the crap out of the volkswagens and even the porsches and for sure all the mercedes on teh road , and maybe even the cl600 in town and the testarossa. it would be aweosme. amybe this is for the better. and tlak about a need for a paint job, my car has been pretty much scraped of paint in the bottom cuz of the damn driveway ramp and the excessively big speedbumps near chapters ans toys r us where i get my bmw magazines. and of coursse dont abuse the smoked lights and 850CSi mirrors is needed. oh and of course the 4 tail pipes at the rear foor some nice dinan ones. i might as well put a "850CSi" logo in the back, cuz htat what it will turn out to be.

Or you could just buy a Csi--- You could probably sell yours w/o the motor for 6- 10k us --- I've seen some really nice csi's go through the auction for less than 30k US... Get 8k for yours then buy a csi for 30 and you've only spent 22k... plus it will hold its value-- you'll never get your money back out of a the hybrid faux-csi you are building.

So what exactly happened with the electronics? Your engine was not getting any oil flow? That seems like something you would hear, see, and smell long before any major damage was done.

It's good to see you care for the car enough to want to go through all that.

1 problem, i live in canada, you cant import or buy 850CSi's there. I honestly dont know a lot. it just ruined the camshaft and the bearings, a nd i didnt hear anything except a small clunk when i went over the curb off my driveway. The problem is that its expensive. but id rather do it up and stuff. Plus i talked ot a guy in calgary who races E30 M3's and is an engineer and he said korman is very reliable and he gets stuff from there. Plus i am going t o keep the 5.4l engine, get it fixed then sell it.

Geschrieben

that is really awful. wouldn't you get a low oil pressure light, notice a puddle, something to that effect?

Korman engines are pretty good, also, look at zionsville motorsport, they have some interesting stuff as well.

i bet you could find a getrag 226-D 6spd manual on a wrecked 540i for cheap, it's the same manual used in M3, M5, Z8, and 540i, and it's a hell of a tranny. It was also, i believe the manual offered with the 850CSi.

As long as you are doing a new motor, may as well right?

Geschrieben

i did have a low oil pressure light on RED but you know i was being stupid, since all teh otehr electrics was messed up i thoguht it was the computer. And yes i supposed the manuals were probably all the same for those models, but i dont know, i am relaly not fond of switching cogs all the time unless i was autobahning. BUt as long as the semi auto transmission offers a first gear and a 6th gear, id be happy. As well what can u do to increase the acceleration and reduce the top speed of a bmw. i know its done with adjusting the gear ratios and stuff, and im not relaly fond of top speed since in canada ull never use it without running into something, or some farmer hitting you. And the guy from calgary said the korman engines are abel to be used by automatic, so i think ill keep that. i will look at zionsville motorsport, thanks polarfox.

Geschrieben

you can swap your rear differential ratio, by making it a higher ratio, you gain acceleration, but loose topspeed. The 5spd auto that you already have is a very good autobox. I know Zionsville sells diffs with different ratios, and i'd be willing to bet korman does too.

The 850 CSi hasnt gone through all the tests needed for the car to be able to be legally registed in canada. I guess they thought it was too rare to be need to be tested in canada or sumthin like that. Its a bummer but what can you do.

canada has obtuse and bizarre standards for importation, no one really gets them. They said no go to the audi RS6 over its bumpers.

we just look up and nod in dissaproval.

rock on CANADIA!

yha. now im runnin into some bigger problems. i called up korman to ask questions and stuff, it was all good till he heard the word 1996. after that he was humming and mumbling. the 96- models have a new engine managment system and hte auto gearbox cant be used. the pricefor hte motor is 30000, which is a lot already, but then he said "the automatic is not suitable for this engine, i coujld change hte car to manual, it was only cost 16,000USD more... :o " so now im doubting korman, bav enigne exhange with 386 hp uses used enignes, so that kinda shifty, but im thinkg of just gettign a new original engine, and they reduced the price from 24,000CAD to 18,000CAD, which is reallllly cheap, and buy the new m6 when that beast coems out.

Geschrieben

yeah, '96 is ODBII management, and not fun, the tranny supposedly won't work i've found because it interfaces with the engine, and Korman's engine won't talk to it. 16k is an obtuse amount for a manual tranny.

Maybe you should just get like, i don't know, a used 540i or something like that to cruise around in for a year until M6? i'm not sure what your feelings are, but it could be more economical.

Geschrieben

man i really don't know wat to tell u except ur screwed and i really sry for ya. i don't know much bout bmw's so i'll leave it 2 these guys to tell ya wat 2 do lol :P:D

Geschrieben

haha its all good. bavarian engine exchange makes 850ci engines with between380hp-420hp. and its pretty cheap, just as cheap as buying a new 850ci enigne. so ill cruise around in that till i get teh M6, which in no doubt i have to get. save up! lol

I still dont understand why you can't get another one-- you got this one so it can't be that hard to get them into the country, right?

Geschrieben

it is a relatively rare car, finding a good one now is getting increasingly harder.

I do think 850, you should ask yourself if the car is worth what you are about to sink into it.

Geschrieben

hit the link -- it shows 34 on autotrader around the US (maybe canada too---) it lists them as the distance from my neighborhood. Add in Hemmings, roadfly, roundel etc and you have a pretty big list of cars to choose from. I know they might be far away, but you can get a whole car for the price of the engine and tranny you about to install ...
