These are just my speculations and are not backed by any evidence.

I believe that iDrive is not the future for BMW. They've got their ears open and it has taken too much criticism to be implemented into all future cars. Maybe a more refined version of it that controls a few things, but certainly not the complicated sysytem in the current 7.

I don't know if you don't like SMG or not, but I think it's great. From now on all new high performance models (read M) will probably have a choice between a 6 speed manual and an SMG. Just my guess, but again, BMW has their ears open and I'm sure they've heard more good than bad about the SMG.

As for Bangle, I don't think that he'll be working at BMW 10 years from now if he doesn't change his designs some. Only time will tell.

thats really phylisophical man, did u know that Bangle influenced the Z3 and the Z8. I think he's alright espatially the way he designed the boot for the 7, I think that has more than just a chance of staying on for a long time.

Geschrieben

I don't have any problems with Bangle (I do like the Z4 and 7) but right now the press and the public are finding things they don't like. Probably just something that comes with a change of leadership. but I guess we'll see soon enough.

My thoughts:

I am not so opposed to Z4 or 7, but I fear bangle may just take the BMW out of the BMW designs. They may still be nice, just not bmw-ish.

i-drive will come to be thought of as a really nice feature, it isn't bad once you get used to it, and i am sure they will refine. It is overall not a bad idea.

I like a real stick shift, but in many cases - a SMG is better for performance and durability. BMW makes a really good SMG anyhow.

Geschrieben

do you think that it is more than just likely that other car manufactures will push in the same direction with drive by wire and SMG?

Geschrieben

SMG will probably be implemented into most new cars in hte future. Toyota, Ferrari, and BMW have good, refined, systems that function well. Other car companies either have them already or are developing them.

The reason that I believe it will catch on more is because you get the advantage of a manual, but the convenience of an automatic for stop-and-go driving.

Geschrieben

the BMW SMG is one of the greatest transmissions yet built, it offers great flexibility, and allows the same transmission to handle more power, other companies will likely follow, but on a whole, with the exception of the feel of a shifter and a clutch, there is no good reason to take a traditional stick over an SMG like this.

All I have to say is that I hope that they continue down the path that they started on the INTERIORS of the cars, with clean smooth surfaces. As for the designs, the 7 is ok, not great... but the Z4? GAG! It is truly hideous. I never thought that Mercedes would be a design leader, but compared to the BMW's, they certainly are! I always liked the older Mercedes because they are sturdy and practical.. but BMW's are all about PASSION and DRIVING. Who needs an iDrive in the "Ultimate Driving Machine"? Should they re-name it the "Ultimate Gadget Machine"? :o

Hallo loxionchild,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für BMW (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

the Z4 truly is one of those cars that you have to see in person to appreciate. The proportions and lines make a lot more sense when you can actually walk around it, not just see the pictures. Trust me, I was converted not too long ago. A brand new Z4 (obviously new, heh) pulled up next to me at a light and my jaw nearly dropped. it looks good and sounds good too. not to mention performance.

Geschrieben

It has performance to beat a Boxster S, 350Z, SLK32, TTi, S2000, and any other car in its class.

(The TTi, 350Z, and S2000 are all much uglier by the way as well)

so what is there to complain about anyhow?

i think beema makes their sports cars xceptionally good looking... the type of good looking that says sport car and doesn't have to apologise for being ugly (Z3 Mcoupe) coz they still look good.

other cars like mercs make cars too feminine although i like the hyundai tiburon (the chassis nothing else!! ehem) and cars like ferrari, lamboghini and porche don't change shape too much i mean c'mon its been a century and they still look like thier grandfathers!! other cars like TT and the alpha romeo spyder are just to artistic to take siriously...

what i'm trying to say is that beema designes rock all over and over again, they are perfect!!!

viva beema viva

most people agree with you there.

that is why BMW is seeing amazing popularity.

I don't know about Bangle. He seems to be happy with creating cars that have ugly rears, :D .

I don't know why people say the Z4 looks ugly. It is such a beautiful car.

Geschrieben

The Z4 is much like the old jaguars, a bit awkward looking, but its own type of beautiful. They are amazing cars in person. They grow on you, I used to hate them.

Im sorry but the Z4 and the 7 series are one of the most beautiful BMW's i have ever seen since the 8 series. My definition of beautiful on cars, are unique, modern looking, unique and most of the lines on the cars fit together. I think the 7 Series back is absolutely beautiful, it goes with the lines of the cars. The Z4 is just amazing, now thats the ultimate roadster machine. Those two are at peak in preformance, style, and character.

To me, the E34 is the most beautiful. I would like to see a more traditional BMW tail going into Bangle's designs.

Geschrieben

Actually i agree with you, the only thing i dont like about the back is that the top of the trunk is higher than the back part of the car. If he just lowered it a bit and make the light corners farthest from the trunk switch around so that it looks like this on the right side

|_/ instead of |_\ If u get what i mean

Geschrieben

From the front and side, the 7 series is fine, but from the rear, it is dissapointing. I can live with the tail on Z4, but the 7 tail is just wierd

feels awkward tapping up and down...

Geschrieben

well, it depends upon how fast you really want to take it. Up to about 250kph, the aerodynamics BMW has given the car a just fine. For going further, a little extra might help screw the car down. I am partial to the harmann
