Stellar? Define "Stellar Drag Coefficient" if you could?! And how would it be Stellar?

Geschrieben

ok, stellar - you know like superlative, i think I read this has it down to around .20 - which is nice.

Geschrieben

I don't see how such a boxy cabin with a hard-edged hood bend can give good drag coeffficients regardless of the shape and angular degree of the front. By the way (I know this doesn't have anything to do with that, but) thing thing has no bumper. I think BMW realized this wasn't the most glorious thing they ever created and scrapped the hell out of it before too many people ruined their retinas looking at it's hideous front.

aerodynamics is a really tricky science. all about phenomenon, not always about logic.

Geschrieben

Yes but more logic than "phenomenon", don't you agree? Phenomenons in themselves are creatures of tricky logic.

hi

Can someone tell me what is the little round circle that series 7 have in the front part inside the car and what is it for?

It is between the 2 front seats.

Yesterday i saw a 745i and went close. I had never seen its inside in reality and it is preeeeeety cool.

The first time I ever heard of an actual " M7 " was right here, right now. But my idea of a perfect M7 has always been the engine and gearbox form the M5 dropped into last generation 740i Sport. That chassis could really handle it. :P

Geschrieben

yeah it could.

my idea of the M7 was last gen 740i chasis with the M5's Getrag Type D 6spd manual, and the DOHC V12 used in McLaren F1- or a contemporary M-Power V12. C'mon, the extra weight of 740 over 540 justifies 4 more cylenders, right? :D

Geschrieben

I suppose the extra weight could justify a V-12, but then the 740 with the standard 282 h.p. V-8 was no slouch. With the Sport package it broke 60 in around 6 seconds.

I was thinking perhaps that in terms the market, the M5 would be slightly more extreme than an M7 with the same engine so it would all even out.

Geschrieben

at the point of M7, you are talking prestige over performance anyhow.

Geschrieben

well also, if an M7 were to be constructed, it would have to be put up against not only the s600's, but the audi RS6. that's boasting 450 HP, and its still in a A6 body.

Geschrieben

E39 M5 is on par with RS6, RS6 take M5 to 60, by 100 M5 has passed RS6, and never falls behind again. M5 takes it on handling and sticker price too.

Next generation M5's 500+hp V10 should pretty well dominate the field.

Geschrieben

really? i thought the m5's v8 was only pushing 395 hp. the rs6 was hitting 450. i figured that had to easily take the m5 from 0-60, and possibly further.

Geschrieben

395 - 400, who knows, the same applies to displacement. Some will tell you 4.9 liters, others 5.0 .

Dang it. :x

Oh well, why not post this before I forget (it's a UFO that was captured by BMW in the 70's, and modified to look somewhat like a sedan):

rennsport2_550.jpg

That was a one off produced by alpina and got about 100mpg i believe

Geschrieben

That funky thing is the same one posted by PolarFox on page two. Oh well, we can never have too many funky things. :D

Geschrieben

Yes, or the same one I posted on page 1.

By the way, 100MPG sounds sweet. I think the Opel Eco-Speedster concept thingy got 136MPG (it used a 110HP Diesel).

Hi people,

Dont you have the 760 in the USA yet? If somebody could help me, i could post some pictures, if somebody could upload them - there has been one person who had the 760i for a Weekend.

So if there would be anyone who could upload some pictures for me, please send me an E-mail to carpassion_BMW@hotmail.com !

Thank you!

Hendrik

We have them here. MotorWerks BMW in bloomington has like 14 of them at the moment.

Geschrieben

Not exactly flying out of the showrooms are they? :D

Geschrieben

at 120-130 thousand US dollars, they aren't exactly priced to sell.
