Mercedes SLR

Mercedes is releasing a supercar for 2005. The SLR. It is to be a center engine, carbon fibre composite car with gull wing doors (yay!). Curb weight target is 2,500lbs, and power is to come from a 5.5L DOHC Lyshcolm Compressor blown 550hp/530ft. lb. V8. Rumors place the price somewhere around 500k. Already people are saying this could be the world's fastest production car - when it is finally released.

This strikes me as a modern SL300 Gullwing - it has the doors to back it up too. It is one sexy piece of metal. Mercedes is impressive in how they make a nice supercharged engine, one that sounds full of angry rumble instead of one that cries with supercharger whine. Ford Supercarged the Mustang Cobra this year, while it is very nice to have the extra power - the thing sounds more like a floor waxer than a V8. Nothing beats a benz. Especially not this one.

I absolutely agree!! I always thought that mercs made overweight and overconsuming engines just for the overweight chassis... but now with the slr they have created a miracle of car. i think in just a couple of years it will be the most loved sports car!!

The SLR is a nice car but too expensive, because it has the same engine as the SL55, only a few hp more. It´s easy to get the same performance than the SLR, and it´s much cheaper. And you drive a covertible. 8)

In my opininon the SL55 looks better. It´s a real dream car.

The SLR bonus is that he will be very exclusive.

The SLR will weigh a little over half as much as the SL55.

SL55 weighs in at just shy of 4,400lbs.

SLR is targeted at 2,300lbs.

Think about this - 2300/550 = 4.18 lb/hp. Perhaps SLR will get a stick shifter?

That is a hell of a fast car.

slr's weight might be targeted at 2300 lbs =1400 kg...but i've read somewhere that the final weight will be around 1600 kg...

as for horsepower i suspect the output of 650 hp,so as to make it being the most powerful mercedes(considering that cl65 has 612hp)

if they use the high-output 5.4L - which is heavier than the standard output due to bottom end modifications and a larger supercharger/intercooler assembly, look for no less than 2,600lb curb weight.

Still the most powerful merc though.
