The Rolls Royce Phantom and Maybach can't be compared ... they're just so different !

The Maybach is powered by the same biturbo v12 powerplant derived from the S600L but with modified exhaust manifolds which delivers an astonishing 405kw(550bhp) and 900nm of torque. The Phantom is powered by a naturally aspirated v12 BMW powerplant with 338kw and 720nm. Then comes accelration the Maybach does 0-100km/h in 5.2sec(maybach 57) 5.4 (maybach 62). The Phantom does 5.9sec ... this is not such a big difference but if u would do something the snobs sitting in the back will never do is race it around a track ... this is where the Maybach comes to life ... it even out performs a Porsche Boxster S around the Nurburgring. Then comes the interior ... the Phantom has everything handmade with the finest materials to give it that classic look. But then comes the Maybach the Superlimo with the Hi-TEch interior with every attentionto detail ... it doesn't just give the snobs in the back a pleasure like the Phantom but the driver in the Maybach can have a real fun time with all the fancy stuff in the front.

The Phantom has remained to be a classic Rolls Royce something that doesn't require such a performance powerplant. This is the only reason why the maybach can be compared because of the performance specs and class of car ! The Maybach is the car ... i wish i could buy one its a pitty they only consider buyers with net assets of $30mil but this is why only 1000 will be produced. But just imagine that sound system 600W Dolby Surround Sound as standard ... now thats amazing.

Fist of all, no one drives a luxury limo like these abusively, and I think the quality and tech in the back of a Phantom will go nose to nose with the maybach. The english are known for their interiors, and I have no doubts in this one. I think it is a waste to make a luxury limo tuned for track performance if you ask me. That is what sports cars are for.

So Merc is getting snobby like Ferrari with considered buyers huh? If someone with 2.5 mil in the bank wanted one, why would Merc refuse? In fact, I'm sure they could be successfully sued if someone was adament enough. I would not buy one, it's not really my style of ultimate luxury. About the Phantom - those squarish, deeply recessed lights are curious, I don't find them unattractive, just odd and strangely familier.

i guess my first choice would be a maybach, just because it's sleek, but i'd like a phantom too, so if merc was being a pain about it, and i were buying one, i'd have no trouble at all buying a phantom.

From what I've read, Mercedes will not be employing a 6 speed auto in any of it's cars. The next new thing (to one-up everyone else, of course) is to be the 7G Tronic 7 speed automatic. If memory serves, it will be coming in 2004 for the 2005 model year cars. My understanding is that they'll use it in everything from E Class to Maybach.

Speaking of Maybach: I love this car, I really do, but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed in the styling, mainly the exterior. It's really not different enough. I feel like because it takes so many cues from the S Class both inside and out, that it lacks inspiration. And you know what? I'd be fit to be tied if I just paid $350K for a luxo-barge and someone told me, "Ya coulda paid half that and gotten almost the same car!" Or, "Shit, that's just a re-badged Benz!" But I'm personally one for individuality. Which is one thing I really like about the new Rolls. It looks like NOTHING else on the road. Aside from that, I love the Maybach. I think it has the technology, speed and grace to do it all. Unfortunately, even though Wilhelm Maybach played a significant role in the history of Mercedes, most people aren't going to recognize that, so the panache of the Maybach name is lost on pretty much everyone.

well, it is bigger than an S-Class, has more prestige (well, an SL65 AMG might be equally presitgous), has some features (like the glass roof than can go from transparent to soild with the touch of a button), overall, if you look at it this way, a fully loaded up SL65 with all the bells and whistles maybach has standard will approach 200k, so the extra 150k is for the extra size, prestige, and stuff like the glass roof.
