Have you seen pictures of the new Maybach? I personally find it much more attractive than any other 300k car, it is also a super lux car, weighing over 5,000lbs, taking the initiative from S600 much further, and it comes in two wheel bases. Seating is for four.

Power is to come from a DOHC variant of the S600 engine, displacing 5.8L, and in twin turbo - intercooled form - producing 550hp and 600ft./lbs. of torque. It is also going to feature the new mercedes benz 6 speed transmission (i hope it is more efficent than the ZF Frederickson model that gets into 7 series and s-type),

anyone have any thoughts on the mega-benz?

Well who need this car?. Politicians?. I seen one in town i think its like a streetch limo very very big. Very hard to drive in town. But its awesome nothing i seen beats it. The chairs are just so cool.

I don't know if any politicians have enough money for a maybach. It isn't really a stretch limo, it has long rear doors with no gap between front and rear doors, which gives it a car look. It isa supremely cool car though. Every piece of tech to rival the offices of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. This is the ultimate I have too much money car.

maybe its more than just politicians who need these cars because aperently the one rolls royce in the pipe lines at the moment (code named RR001 or RR01) is set for the same market the mayback dominates... maybe the world population is driviing out apearl for fast cars and pushing the need for luxurious ones instead!!

Has everyone of you seen a Maybach live? The pictures of the car look nice, but I like to see it live. I´ve only seen a S-Class 600 Pullman 3 times here in Berlin.

it has a look all to itself. I have seen video all around of it, but not seen the car in person. i also hear it turns over low 5 0-60 time in absolute silence. The glass roof is something special.

I am not fond of the shape. Too much like an S-Class. I hate the two tone paint too. Good idea, bad execution. Anyone seen the Rover 75? I rest my case, the two vehicles look rather similar in profile. If I had the money, I would rather have a Bentley.

you know the roof it all electroluminescent glass, you can flick a switch and it instantly goes from being shading to transparent?

That car is all about image. You could have something that could match that car feature for feature and in performance for 1/4 the price if you think about.

That car is not even about money anymore. Its in a class of its own, especially with the glass roof those cool seats, wireless internet. Benz is going to send out 500 this year, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Afflack had one for the 2003 Oscars as a test drive aka publicity stunt.

its mechanicals are, atleast equal, if not better in some aspects, and it has a soul, a spirit all of its own. The soul of the car is unmistakably rolls royce, the mechanicals are unmistakenly BMW.

How could you ever beat that?

I gotta be honest here. I'm a Bimmer fan to the max. when it comes to BMW's I'm a fan-and-a-half (or more!). I'd never say anything bad about BMW or any of it's subsidiaries or any companies associated with BMW (except if they really screw up).

But here's the thing: As great as the new Rolls Royce is, as Germanific and BMW-like as the engineering is, and as typically Rolls-Royce-ish as the new Phantom is, there is one problem: the new Rolls Royce looks too futuristic and less "classic".

Don't be mistaken, it stays true to it's roots to a great degree, but it still ends up disappointing many (that kind of includes me), including the original builders and designers. Of course this really isn't BMW's fault, as they were responsible for the mechanics and performance. And they've done a kick-ass job. The 6.75L BMW V12 is among the best, and it's got 453HP and a tree-pulling 531lbs-ft. of torque. Maximum speed is just over 240KPH, which is enough (trust me no one would ever take a Rolls Royce to 240KPH or more). And it does 0-62.5MPH in ~5.7 seconds, and does all of this while getting 26MPG. Kickass material if you ask me.

But BMW (assuming that they would have a slight sense of what a classic Rolls Royce was like) should have done more to make sure it doesn't disappoint anyone.

in fact the phantom is a retro rolls design. It has suicide doors, the original rolls royce rear seating layout, and the 0-60 i saw is 5.2, and I'd take mine to the 155mph speed limiter whenever I got the oppurtunity. The ride quality is supposed to be a head above anything else currently produced - including maybach. I don't know, if i were getting dropped off at a social function, I'd get dropped in a phantom thank you.

Well it's very pimparific no doubt, but the Rolls Royce (oh, and I knew someone would dispute the 5.7 acceleration time) is too futuristic in many people's minds, even though it's supposed to have retro styling. And again the engineering is no doubt top notch, and I can't think of anyone better for the job than BMW. Also, would you honestly go 250KPH+ in a Rolls Royce? I'm probably the biggest speed-crazy maniac who ever became a member of carpassion.com, but I don't think I'd take a Rolls Royce to even 230KPH. It's just pointless. A Sirius on the other hand, if driven by me (and if it COULD pull my kind'a crazy tricks), would be taken to well over half-the-speed of sound and beyond.

you know koenigsegg will be at half the speed of sound by years end 2004 if scheduling holds true.

I'd have no trouble taking that car to 250kph. I have had my suzuki XL-7 (a midsize SUV) and my volvo 740 (which has 180,000 miles/290,000km on it) both to better than 120mph (195kph). A rolls royce i would be fully confident taking faster. I don't care who disputes that number, it is an official press release. In all likelyhood, production versions will be faster. Due to its aluminum space frame, the rolls is much lighter than comperable cars (Maybach) and has an amazing driveline. I see no issue here. Phantom is no more futuristic than maybach.

I think you mistook what I meant. I know and have no doubt in the fact that the Phantom is more than capable of going 260KPH or so, but I wouldn't want to ruin the image of the car, you know? I think the Rolls Royce is best suited to comfort-riddled cruising down south-beach ave. type thing. You know what I mean?

I think the Maybach is futuristic too; just slightly less than the RollsRoyce in the front (and maybe more so if you look at the rear).

Oh, and blieve me they wouldn't hit half the speed of sound if they could. It's not just aerodynamics that become an issue, but also te fact that at speeds of 600KPH+ the car would be ripped to pieces or rolling over a million times on it's side on it's way to a horrific death if even a pebble goes under one of the tires. Also, you would have to virtually reduce ground clearance to none. Or else the car will take off into the atmosphere.

yea a local brabus dealer has two of those, why a brabus dealer has the maybach over a mercedes dealer i dont know, but the brown and black color one is there. The thing is sweet.

I dont konw about you guys, but sittin in the back seat and stretchign my legs out and having 3 feet of extra room, i am feeling that!!!!! the thing is so teched out, yes i said teched...hehe, i was in love with it, i would have no problem sleepin or even living in int, i know hte fridge is big enough for a pack of broooskies, and even some weenies for the winter raost i will burn up on the ausphault with that much power it has.....i likes it!!!
