why would anyone waste the time it takes to change the intake manifold on a maxima?

....14 blue lights... LOL

Geschrieben

this guy is clearly confused. he said he added an intercooler to a naturally aspirated maxima.

an intercooler, for those who don't know, is a device to cool air coming out of a turbo or supercharger, since it has been heated well about ambient temperature. the colder air is more dense, increasing boost. on a naturally aspirated engine, it would literally do nothing, because the air coming in is already at ambient temp.

so basically, since everyone of his 14 blue LEDs equals 50 extra horse, he'd waste us all.

Hey Nissan-Man, what's your problem? :-?

And what will your Nickname tell us/me?

Don't ask me I just work here. :)

Anywayz ducttape is just the ultimate form of humiliating yourself man. It's so wrong.

Geschrieben

i'll be damned if i know. it's wierd. i have taken ever last bit of it i find out and replaced it with slightly more civilized means of repair.

sometimed duct tape is the right solution. just not on my car.

Geschrieben

yes, i got mine used. The guy before had modified the car a number of ways. some were good, like he relocated the battery to the trunk, but for some reason, he chose to fix vacuum line hoses with duct tape.

Geschrieben

So you didn't actually put the tape on the car in the first place?

Hallo ChrisDV,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör für US Cars (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

hell no.

i do not fix cars with duct tapes. that's why we have rednecks.

i have been ripping the damn stuff off as fast as I can find it.

Geschrieben

gotcha. I thought you were implying that it came from BMW with duct tape on it.. didnt know you bought it used.

Geschrieben

Carmakers do use tape if you take into account the stuff they wrap up some electrical wires with, check under the hood, it's there.

Geschrieben

Duct tape, electrical tape, whats the difference? :D They have access to the highest technology, and they still wrap stuff up in tape. Whatever works.

Geschrieben

some stuff is in tape. MANY american manufacturers just put a hard plastic sleeve over wires (goes on faster, cheaper). That is depressing to see, because clearly, electrical tape is a superior solution.

Geschrieben

Why is it depressing to see? Whatever works for'em. Unless you look under the hood a lot, then there's no need to get depressed!

Geschrieben

it isn't a very good way to do the job. the only reason they do it that way is for cost. It is a poor insulator and protector compared to the rubberized electrical tape.

I guess that wuold matter to the people who are going to open up the bonnet and do some work on the heart of the car. Most average folk (notably most women) won't even change the oil on their cars, until it runs out. I'd be surprised if the average person even opened up the hood of their car 3 times in the car's life-time. With that in mind, I don't think it's going to matter much what compund or whatever they use. Besides, most people would probably replace that anyway when they modify their cars in anyway. For their own safety. That is, if they agree that it's safer.

Geschrieben

well, it doesn't protect well, over time it can allow the wires to wear, which is bad. i just think it opens the door to things going wrong.

Geschrieben

good, it means they were actually meaning for your wrangler to stand up to punishment in all areas. jeep has always made a good vehicle. my buddy's ford truck, as well as his GMC jimmy both use this cheap ass wire cover that just snaps on, it does a poor job, the wires on both cars are showing premature wear.

i'm glad jeep did it right.

Geschrieben

I can agree with the "tape-wrapping" argument. But how does Jeep make good vehicles? The Wrangler was out of style and out-dated in the 1950's, and the Grand Cherokee probably drains an oil field for every mile it travels. "Good" vehicles? I think they'll need to do more than just "electrical wire-taping".

Geschrieben

listen, for the price of a wrangler, nothing will buy you more off roading power. it isn't a refined road car by any means, it isn't supposed to be, it is a specialized vehicle. The fact it is still around says how well it was originally designed. Nothing has been built to do the job better that cheap. The grand cherokee with the 4.7L HO V8 challenges X5 4.4s and ML500s for acceleration, is cheaper, and more capable off road. It may not handle nearly as well, it may not be as refined or luxurious, not as durable, but they sell, and they serve their purpose well. Jeeps are, to me, the best thing chrysler has going for them (except for being joined at the hip to daimler). They are good SUVs, they are more timeless than almost any other american vehicle. Look at cherokee, no major changes in like 20 years, they just didn't go out of style. Grand Cherokee is going strong yet, and the wrangler is still doing it's thing as well as it ever has.

Geschrieben

The grand cherokee drains an oil field for every mile you drive it? Are you implying that it gets bad mileage or that it leaks oil? Either way, that is a very biased, uneducated comment to make.

As far as the wrangler goes, if "out of style and outdated" means the most capable vehicle in its class, then Ill take "out of style and outdated" everytime.
