ok, depending on how it is tuned, the LS1 has made as little as 302hp for the GTO concept car. In the Camaro it made 335hp, and in vette it makes 350hp with better than 380 ft/lbs of torque, although it redlines at 6,000. The LS6 in the Z06 makes 405hp and 400 ft./lbs of torque. The 3.2L 54 degree v6 in CTS is unbalanced, uneven, and based on the 3.0 in Saab 9-5 and Saturn LS. The engine has rather modest specifications, and it doesn't live up to its paltry specs. It feels like it is maybe 200hp, and doesn't sound quite right. What is strange is that a six cylender version of the northstar V8 was made made to power the 6 cylender Oldsmobile Aurora, it was 3.5L, a 90 degree smooth bank, and made 215hp and 235ft./lbs of torque. It could easily have been tuned up to make even output per liter with the 4.6L V8 version, it would make 230hp - which isn't bad, and probably could be pressed up to 250-260hp with a little work. Why this motor didn't go in, i don't know.

If a V8 went into CTS, it would likely be somewhere between the 345hp GTO LS1, and 350 vette LS1.

Well, the reason for WHY it didn't go in to the CTS may have been the cost (I don't know how much they are down there, but up here the price for a CTS is ludicrusly high. Also, as far as it's V6 feeling like 200HP, you're almost dead-on. Unless I'm wrong, which I'm probably not, the V6 in the CTS makes 200-220HP (which, by the way, in my opinion is weak for even a 6-Cyl.). And by the way, if this thing gets a V8, then think what the XLR might get! Maybe a 700HP V12? Hmm, there I go with the day-dreamin' again....

Geschrieben

Here in the US, a CTS has 220hp and retails for less than 30k US.

Geschrieben

Yes it has 220HP up here as well. And the price is about $50K (or more) Canadian for a fairly equipped version.

Geschrieben

It isn't a bad car. If they made one for 40k US with a northstar V8 of 300-330hp, I'd have one tommorow.

Geschrieben

Well you can afford that. I can't afford a $65000 car! I'm a college student!!! That's waaaaaay too much right now!!!!!

Geschrieben

Let me just tell you, two of hte top five fastest cars in america are the cheapest and by far will own most of the 100K+ cars in europe and japan.

I am talking about hte Z06 which is a superior handling car, built off the best engineering can come, a low twelve second car that barely costs 50k, and the second being the 03 cobra making 390 crank hp, yet still dynoing 400 RWHP, yea if that doesnt make sense think on why it does.

The 03 cobra without slicks, gears and drivtrain with small mods will run high 11s on street tires, imagine higher booost and slicks, ...

there is this one guy who took a 03 cobra and bmped his boost up to 18 and has near 800 hp on all stock internals , that is bc it is all built from the factory, this guy ran a **crappy** 10.23 hehe he hope to run 9s soon, an doh yea listen, this guys drives it to and from work EVERYDAY!!!

So pelase if you think this should not exist, look at lemans, an dhow much Panoz. driven by american motor, corvette, viper, saleen, Judd v10s just own all of those races, the only comp is out of audi, and god knows that they suck on the street, unless a higher boosteed s4 can out run waht was once my stock GT stang....hehe

got a new dyno.....596 rwhp, 617 rwtq....hehe hoping to get into 600s within 3 months!!!!

American Cars own this thread!!!!

Geschrieben

Dude I know like 1400 people who'd jump all over you and destroy your opinion and spit on it if they read this! Anyway I'm not going to argue on whether or not American cars are good r bad (it's just too big of an argument with too many good points fom both sides of the fence). It's more a matter of opinion. And I don't know what you mean by "American cars own this thread!"; the thread is ABOUT American cars.... :-?

Geschrieben

haha let them jump all over me man. LIke you said it is all the basis of opinions, but for money to performance ratio, Americans win by far. I mean in professionial racing, they are very competitive in the market against euro and japanese, so yea...

No offense i was stating my opinion, i am not just going around and POST WHORING on ever thread i can just to prove my point to ever person alive, so yea , reject, disavow, rebut to all i have to say. I was jus tproving my idea about american cars!!!

The last thing though, was a joke!! so yea.......

Geschrieben

WTF? :-? Are you high? I didn't disagree with you!?! I didn't say anything personally, I said "I know people who would do that the first chance they got". I was just stating my opinion too. I don't know what your problem is. And "post-whoring" is a pretty gay immature thing to say. I don't post on threads to "prove my point" to "every last person alive". I rarely even argue. If you actualy took the time to read some of my posts (rather than bitchin' about'em), you'd know I'm mainly just stating my opinions about the stuff people talk about here. I'm a car-freak and love to talk about anything that has to do with cars. I hope I haven't commited a crime here! God forbid should I say anything people don't understand (everyone will jump all over me and try to argue with me). What is there to argue about? I got into an argument with another dude who had some harsh opinions about why American cars suck big time, and I disagreed with him. I don't think they're THE best, but they're certainly ONE of the best. My personal favorites are the Germans. Anyway, seeing as to how I'm somehow unknowingly "rejecting", "disavowing", and or "rebuting" your opinions (according to what you think), then I'll just stop arguing with you. Because you know I'm such a "POST WHORE" and I win every non-existant argument because I'm apparently disagreeing with everyone (hell that's what I'm here for, right?). So I'll let you "win" this one. Wouldn't wanna disagree with you Sir. Or agree for that matter. Because no matter what I do it seems someone like you finds a way to insult me. That's fine man. I can hook you up with Phil_Jackson, and you two can argue and fight eachother silly.

Anyway: For the professional racing I agree with you. But they don't have the best bang-for-buck. That belongs to the Japanese, and the Germans and the Americans are tied for 2nd. And that's not just a matter of opinion, it's what the public sees too.

Hey homey, aight man sorry, i didnt mean to get back at you like that, it is just on other posts no one lets anyone post ont here opinions, and when i do they attack at me. So i guess i misunderstood, my bad...

As for japanese a mean a type R costs 2 gs more than my car not fully loaded than my stock gt (at one time) was for 22 grand and it ran high 13s, while the type r ran 15. the awesome cars like the RX7 and supra were both 30 k plus cars, and the skyline in america goes from the low r32 35 k to the r34 to 80k. Yea japanese is cool, but they cost a lot more than american. The two i can see can run not close but jointly with us, is the new WRX and Evo, but they still cost like 7-12 k more than chitty, oops i mean Chevy and Stangs....

alli need is 800 dollars and my stock gt can run low twelves...hehe

Best bang for the buck - the japanese? The 50k you can have your pick of 2 german or 2 american cars that run 0-60 sub 5 out of the box, all with skidpads of .85ish, all of which are competent in all areas. For 25k, you can have yourself a brand new mustang GT or Camaro running 0-60 sub 5.5, and handling pretty nice. You go buy a civic for 16k, I'll go get a mustang 3.8L V6, mine is faster out of the box and handles better, still seats 4, we both spend the same amount of money to make our cars faster, guess what, mine still beats yours. I really don't see how the japanese are best bang for the buck. American cars are very impressive. Cobra and Vette are great cars, I don't think they offer the "total package" bimmer, porsche, and mercedes serve up, but we're darn close. Right now, the nod goes to the germans for performance cars, for the money, the US of A has the market cornered, the japanese build good, practical, and at times very fun cars, but dollar for dollar, the US has them beat.

right now I think japanese cars are all about image, look at the "fart pipe" mufflers, the crazy lowered suspensions, and stickers. My X Type has yet to be beat by anything lowered with a fart pipe. Period. I haven't even touched that yet. Mitsu EVO and WRX are good cars, no doubt (EVO more than WRX), but their performance is finnicky. All the power is in a narrow band, stab on the gas anywhere, and it is hit or miss what sort of power you have, plus, doing your own power mods - with better than 120hp/l - i don't see how that is going to do much good.

Geschrieben

Hey that's aight T88. Dude I get quite a bit o' crap myself. All I need to do is post one tiny message somewhere and I'll start getting flame-mailed and hated-on. I know where you're comin' from.

Fox, Japanese cars provide an overall better value up here. I don't know how cheap American cars are in the U.S., but here it's first Japanese cars, and then maybe the German cars and American cars are tied for 2nd. The Koreans and Brits are tied for 3rd, and the Swedes and Italians share 4th. Canadians themselves are somewhere in between there. The French take 5th.

Geschrieben

swedish and british 4th, japanese first. you have issues.

for 25k, you find me german car to go head to head with mustang and camaro. german cars don't get to be even in value until you are spending a lot of money. The M3 is the only car I can think of that is a value, okay, maybe a C32, or a 911 turbo, but otherwise german cars are at a premium price. You know next year 36k will buy you a 300hp turbocharged volvo S60R with a 6 spd stick and electronic awd? Every luxury imagineable?

Not a bad deal. It also has the world most sophisticated electronic suspension control system.

Geschrieben

oh siet you live in canada, everything is cheap there....lol

Geschrieben

Yeah dude, in Canada some things are cheaper, but other's are more expensive.

LOL, Fox, I MIGHT have issues! But that stil doesn't make what I said any less true. ere, American cars aren't exactly cheap, though they're better than most others. German cars aren't chape but they provide excellent value as most people are beginning to figure out. Maybe you're right about Swedish cars deserving a higher plaque mark but British cars (I think we only have Jags here; that's all I can think of right now) are hideously high-priced. Japanese cars are extremely cheap though, and though they may even be overall worse than American (and other) cars, they still provide good value (and I'm not talking about luxury divisions of manufacturers, such as Toyota's Lexus, Nissan's Infiniti, or Honda's Acura). A Honda or Toyota here provides excellent budget value. Live here with very little money to spend on a car and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Geschrieben

i grew up in a world of swedish, british, and italian cars. I will openly admit that italian cars are horribly impactical, but british cars, in the luxury segment atleast have provided a decent bang for the buck. No luxury car is cheap. I don't much care for japanese cars, I respect the values with which they are built, but they lack character and soul. I have yet to find a drawback to swedish cars.

Geschrieben

Swedish have always satisfied there customers. But i know what you mean about luxary cars and not doing it all out. Freaken cadilaac escalades have fake chrome sealents on most of hte outside of hte body, and even high expense cars come with the worst ergonomics i have ever seen in my life. It is actualy rare to find a car that comes all out well thought of. Even lamborghini has draw backs in the setup of there cock pit. have you seen the cheap ness of hte glove box, i know that i spicky, but still, and the older model stereos they had in the ferraris, i mean come, i have seen better crap on a 11 thousand dollar KIA....it is just hard to see manufacterers not matter how high dignified they are, to try anymore, or at all. THey want to get hte bets car out there, with the less cost to them. The only companies i have seen actually enjoy doing there best is, Porsche, Aston martin, and Audi. I am sure there ar emore, but from magazine and personal on site tests i have done, i noticed the best were these three......!

Oh yea, even the McLaren was poorly made, i dont know if it was jus tme, but have you felt the seats, had no lumbar support at all, and they were suposedly formula one inspired!!! sheesh!!

Geschrieben

in terms of layout and practical attention to detail, german and swedish cars probably do this the best, the swedish cars having very simple, practical layouts, and an emphasis on durability of materials. The more complex german layouts (Audi, BMW) have very high attention to even the smalles details, and have lots of inovative features.

American cars typically have very simple, pretty ergonomical layouts, but suffer from poor build quality. Japanese cars have very high build quality, but often times do not have the most comfortable or practical layouts. Italian cars go for feel, the idea is when you are behind the wheel, you feel a part of the car, and they always do it well, unfortunately, build quality can get sketchy, and the layout is never practical.

And then there are the brits.

Attention to detail is usually relatively decent (in no way audi, but still pretty good), materials are second to none - the grades of wood and leather are beyond reproach, but the layouts are just plain odd. Often uncomfortable, unpractical, unsensible, yet it often they just push it off as quirky british character.

Geschrieben

Here's the deal guys, ergonomics and economics aside, you can't jusge a car like a Japanese car for it's bang-for-buck on the basis that it has no "soul" or "character", now I may actually be one who agrees with you on that, but it still doesn't mean they don't provide excellent value. High build quality, durability, reliability, excellent services and tons of modification options, plus the fact that the Japanese want to stay competitive means the Japanese are very good auto makers and among the best. They may build their cars like robots but that has it's advantages. And no matter how much elegance, class, luxury, and style Britis cars have, their lower higher bang-per-buck ratio means they actually become somewhat impractical for the average auto-buyer.

when I get into my car to drive, I want to feel something. Some riced out civic, no matter how great of a deal it was, won't do that for me. I get behind the wheel of a jaguar, or a maserati, a bmw, or an alfa romeo, or a porsche, instantly you can feel it, you don't even have to drive it that fast, because the car is just that much fun. If you are looking for a cheap practical, unemotional way to get from point a to b, there is public transit, i think it makes it well worth the price differential to have a car you can really love. A car with character. I see a civic at every stoplight, but when they see me, I am the only one of what I was driving they saw that day, and that alone gives me the motivation to work for the extra buck.

Geschrieben

Public Transit? :-? Which planet do you live on at the moment? Public Transit costs more than a Civic and it's annual insurance! And by the way I'd say you're just an exception to the general rule, John Doe and Joe Average and Jack what's-his-face won't neccessarily want to "feel" the car, and they may not even be able to afford a car that has "soul" and causes emotions and adrenaline to pump. Maybe you and I and other better-than-average dough-makers can afford to drive a Jag. or a Merc. or a Bugatti or whateer floats our boat, but what I'M talking about is the majority. The other 95%.

Geschrieben

buy a used car that has soul and feel. think of it like this, if a car has soul, people will love it, and take better care of it, the most lovable new cars make the best used cars!

Trust me, some cars, anyone can feel.
