Italian police took possession of a Lamborgini Gallardo of their own, May 14. The sports car is a gift from Lamborghini and comes complete with full police paint scheme and light rack. The Gallardo will be used initially to patrol the Solerno-Reggio Calabria motorway in Southern Italy, which is notorious for it's wild drivers.

It will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations. 8) I'm sure the driving duties will not be handed to just any old doughnut popping hack.

Nice!

I've always heard of like viper cop cars in like Texas and stuff

but never really believed it, now I can see its true except a

lambo gallardo in italy, nice :D

Over here in the UK the police drive Subaru Impretza's and BMW's; quick cars but not quite the same as a lambo!

That's a scary sight to see in your rear view mirror!!

I think in the U.S. if the cops have a car like a Viper, it's not really used for patrol purposes, but rather public relations. Like to impress school kids at D.A.R.E. functions.

But speaking of P.R. you hardly ever hear about the cops getting a really hot car donated to them, like a Ford GT for the California Highway Patrol. That would be great publicity! As if the GT or CHP need more publicity.

What would you have to be driving to even bother putting up a chase? There can't be many cars that would have any chance at all of getting away.

I'd rather be chased by a helecopter! :D

A McLaren F1, Diablo, Ferrari 575, another Gallardo. Any number of cars. Although, just because one is a cop, does not mean one is an expert driver. Some of us have seen evidence of that.

And you're right, being chased by a helicopter is the best!

Or any sport bike such as a ducati 998, hayabusa, r1 etc.

You see my point though? Lets be realistic.

When was the last time you saw the police chasing a Mclaren F1? :)

Hallo LateNightCable,

schau doch mal hier zum Thema Zubehör fĂŒr Lamborghini Gallardo (Anzeige)? Eventuell gibt es dort etwas Passendes.

If the point of this was to catch a speeding McLaren, the Police would get another McLaren. All they are trying to do is intimidate, and maybe stop being left in the dust by average cars.

Remember though, the Gallardo was a gift from Lamborghini, the police didn't buy it. Probably a promotional move on the part of caretaker Audi. Part of it is no doubt a show of power and intimidation for the police, but at least they're using it as an emergency organ transport car too. And of course, a car is only as good as it's driver, so Gallardo or not, you've still got a chance of getting away. The policeman behind the wheel would be sweating bullets for fear he would wreck it if he maxed it out, followed by nationwide humiliation.

They probably never would have bought a Lambo themselves, and they sure as hell never would have aquired a McLaren.

Is such a PR with the police are always good for the carmakers image? Maybe not for all customers. Or..?

Porsche are also did it a few years ago in Germany. They donated them 20 Carrara 2's. :-?

Well, news of an exotic police car travels like wild fire, so I guess it could only be good PR.

This is Calgary Canada's answer to donated police cars.

Awesome rx8 :-))! I wish all the U.S. police cars were like Impalas or Camaros like they got it in St. Louis, they do have some nice sounding Impalas around here in Springfield but I wish they would make it the

official policecar:2001_Chev_Impala_police1.jpeg

only because everytime I see one of those crown vitoria

I fell like I am going to vomit :puke:

I'm sure Sunridge Mazda did it just out of the goodness of their hearts right?

St.Louis has some nice sounding Impala's? I think it's pretty much standard Chevy V6 fare. As far as tail pipe music goes - blah ...

Wanderer, you said Crown Vics make you want to vomit just so you had an excuse to use that face didn't you? Good enough reason I guess. :-))!
