FI engines on the way ?

German Autobild has come up with an article concerning the upcoming 3-series..It also refers about usage of biturbocharged petrol engines.Its principal will be the same as in recently unveiled 3-liter biturbodiesel with roughly 280 horses - so called two-stage turbocharging.As it seems they will offer both six and eight cyl. with this system.The I6 is gonna put out cca. 330 horses while the v8 will produce approximately 450hp.Decent ammount of horses,isn't it?Alongside with an enormous torgue of these engines,"ti" models will absolutely fly.

Power figures are not that stunning considering that two turbos are used coz they obviously focus on the torque curve which will be pretty flat.

Wow u mean the regular 3-series, *crap* errrr... sry LNC ;), have decently powered engines now.

Hopefully they'll keep the weight down with the more powerful engines, they should be very fast.

I predicted 450hp for the V-8 M3 becuz of the 550hp M5 and *estimate* 650hp M6.

Guess i was right all along.

this is a massive generalization but bear with me guys.

the rwd 3 series is right in the weight bracket of the eclipse and the 330 of right now also still has a little more power than the eclipse. so wait....what about weight and crap engines? you lost me. and yes you can supercharge the 3 series

i think what bmw is doing under the hood now is amazing and it will continue to be amazing as long as it also looks good.

I don't think u'r accurate:

* 320i has a 2.2L

* 325i @231hp????

* and others...

This 3series has so many engines. I don't believe one bit. What magazine is this? Is it a serious one...? Many things are just not right.

I predicted 450hp for the V-8 M3 becuz of the 550hp M5 and *estimate* 650hp M6.

Guess i was right all along.

So did I...But this is not the final specification..It might have more power. Lets hope :wink:

Sadly it seems that the m5 will have only 500hp(or slightly more)...550hp is no longer generally expected. M6 with 650hp? are you serious? :)

But why the new one couldn't have 2.0l?

It has a new direct injection just like the 3.0l...

I wish I could see this in English. But , even coming from a magazine, it can still be a speculation.

Too be honest I wouldn't put my money on it yet. There's always rumours about turbo's, speculations and "mechanics" who according to their analysis claim the next step must be Fi but at the end of the day they're all wrong (up untill now).

VANOS is giving great result, although very costly and eats alot of oil. There's alot of room for further development. I don't think BMW will give up development so easily, although the old BMW seems to be dying by the day.

See it to believe it.
