Speeding Tickets

how about a post of your history with tickets, and what they are like where you live.

My worst - $286 in georgia.

Most recent $105. All speeding tickets in hennepin county are $105, regaurdless. That is unless they decide to charge you with wreckless driving. Then it gets expensive.

I read in motor trend the executive vice president of Nokia Cell Phone got a ticket for 34kmh over the limit on his road on his motorcycle. In finland, speeding tickets are based on income. His was just shy of the equivalent of $104,000!

The best I've ever done is 319 euro doing 82 km/h in a 50km/h.

Just so you know what bastards the traffic cops can be over here:

I was coming out a town (in town it's 50km/h over here), just outside the town there's this straight road. Because on paper it's still a part of the town you have to go 50 there but it doesn't matter if you go 50 or 100 because it's a straight road and nobody lives there. Anywayz just before the "leaving town sign" they had a radar camera setup, 10 meters I would be out of town and wouldn't get a ticket but because I was 10 meters in town they caught me and gave me the ticket!

Assholes, they really know howto milk you dry! Not that safety would benefit from it, it's just that it's a great spot to catch people.

After that I invested in a radar detector and never got a ticket since.

we have a family valentine 1 radar detector, i am planning on getting an escort 8500 to try out perhaps, or another V1.

The ohio turnpike here in the US has an interesting system. When you enter, they stamp your toll card with the time. Based on where you exit in how long, they figure your average speed. if it is above the limit, a nifty little camera takes a picture of your plate, and they mail you a ticket. nice huh?

We have a similiar system over here aswell. Not with tollboots but with camera's behind the road signs above each lane. A few km's down the road they have a similiar setup and a computer central somewhere in the capital.

With this they can measure the time it took you to travel a distance and because they know what the distance is they can automaticaly compute your average speed.

They seem to think that by forcing people to drive a certain speed the roads become safer. Infact you need traffic police to pick out the idiots with dangerous driving styles. As everybody knows it's safe todo higher speeds on certain roads in certain conditions.

i think the speed limit should be more of a discretionary thing with police too. some moron in a beated down old chevy who obviously is not capable of driving at signifigant speed should be pulled over, as they are a threat to themself and others. Someone who is a skilled driver in a modern and capable sports car can often times safely travel at speeds above the speed limit with no issues. I think such things should be taken into account.

I fully agree. I can't count the times I've heard some idiot driving himself to death in a Opel Kadet GTI. Just 2 weeks ago, near where I live, a kid drove his Opel Kadet into a tree. He was testing the mods he had made. He split his car right down the middle, fortunatly for him he just had a few broken ribs and whiplash. They are a danger not only to themselves but to other drivers aswell.

split it? Ouch, you should know better than to do than on a public road that is well travelled. Obviously not a good driver if he had no idea his car was about to fall apart. Good thing no one else was hurt.

I've never had a speeding ticket of any kind. Funny, because if cops had been around when I did, I'd be posting all my messages from behind bars. I've had stupid tickets though, like for broken tail-lights. Blech. I'd rather get arested for G.T.A. than get such pointless tickets.

my two best freinds get hauled off in hand-cuffs next time they get a speeding ticket. One of my freind because of the number of tickets (they are all 30 overs). The other because of a reckless driving charge or two he got.

I have only 1 on my reccord. :D

I really should have a radar detector.

Well I never got caught in a situation which required jail or a judge. I always make sure I keep just below the ultimate speed :) 50km/h over the max speed means jail and judge over here.

i have never gotten caught highly over, my father did in our jaguar x going 120. He didn't have to go before a judge, just pay a horrifically stiff fine. I will put a radar detector in my bmw before trying to achieve my 150mph goal.

i have never received a moving violation. numerous tickets for my car though, too low, headlights, suspension travel, front plat. dumb stuff. but i did have 2 police officers try to catch me at 140. i lost them up in northern jersey. i had the advantage though because i was already speeding when i saw them pull out with their lights on. i put it to the floor for a few miles and then exited the parkway. they never saw me again. but so far so good with speeding, i rarely speed anymore. costs too much if i get pulled over, and i dont want that to happen, ever.

You're in luck that you don't live over here then :). Over here the highway police have special cameras in their cars which can take instant pictures of any vehicle passing. So over here, even if they didn't catch you, they still have your licence plate number and would've visited you at home.

It's my understanding that 90mph is the max you may do in the US (correct me if I'm wrong) you were doing 50mph over. converted to KM/H it would mean you would goto jail and could kiss your drivers licence goodbye for a long time.

well, that is where the US is nice. States here have huge jurisdiction over such things. In minnesota, where one of my homes is, over 30 over is a wreckless, and you have to appear in traffic court, and a judge decides your fate. 50 over probably would get you fine your first time, and your second would be an arrest, loss of liscense, and possible jail time. In pennsylvania, speed depends on counties. On the turnpike, a road with state jurisdiction, there is an escalating ticket scale, with points against your liscense. 6 points and it goes away. My father got a $900 ticket and 4 points against his liscense for his 117mph ticket. He has since taken to liking radar detectors. We don't have radar cameras in the states, too many powerful lobying groups would get that stopped before it got close to reality.

i have a very bad reputation with police. my first major ticket was when i was 18 i hit a garbage can(accidentally on purpose for kicks, definately one of the dumbest mistakes in my life) and i got pulled over 10min later by a cop who recieved a call from someone in the area. the cop loaded me up with $100 worth of crap tickets (parking in a fire zone, etc.) then hit me with wreckless driving.

i lasted quite a while with out getting moving violations but still got pulled over monthly and got the occasional non-functioning lamp or expired inspection. then 3 months ago i got pulled over going 46mph in a 35. fortunately i hit the brakes before he hit me with the laser. i was just coasting at 50 and didnt know the speedlimit had dropped from 45 to 35.

last month i got pulled over going 56 in a 45 and just decided that speeding is retarded in new jersey (because of cops).

the local prosecutor knows me now since all of the separate townships i had recieved speeding tickets from hire the same atourneys. he said that there was nothing that i could do to drop the points on my last ticket so i just bit the bullet. on my first ticket i paid around $100 on top of the $150, i think it was, to drop the ticket. then on the second i paid $288 to drop the points. on the most recent ticket i paid only 88 and took the 2 points.

i definitely agree on certain cars(drivers) being aloud to go above the speed limit, however i think there will be too many problems with a legal structure like that. people would also complain about descrimination.

first off, i like your sig line.

secondly, i am not too worried, the state prosecutor, a few state senators, and my local representative to congress are family freinds, i see them every other family banquet. I get myself too deep, I'll call up and use my one free family favor. As of now, I have had no reason to get to know my local authorities too well. I live in a snobby community, holy hell would get raised if police handed out tickets for 10 overs. Mine was 20 over. I got off lucky as hell last night though.

I come flying down the exit ramp from I494 to hwy212, 212 is a divided highway with a median, and there is a light at the intersection. I am cruising 55-60 down the exit ramp, the light turns yellow, due to the high burm, I have no idea sitting on the median right out of sight, where I am about to turn, sits a parked police interceptor. i take the 90 degree turn at 55 - no brakes, the car even lifted crossing the intersection, as i back wag into line, I see the cop, just in time to see him say "holy-shit". I was sure I was screwed, but he didn't pull out, I don't know why. my bmw doesn't have plates on it either.

about an hour and a half later, myself and best freind are coming out of wal-mart, on the way to my car (in hindsight, he should have listened and brough his mustang too), there are two identical super-riced civics - almost like something from a movie, both have flashing strobe style lights everywhere, 2-litre size mufflers, sitting right on the deck, stickers galore, one red one white. I pull up next to them, rev a bit, my bimmer barks a bit out the dinan muffler (best money i've ever spent). they look over (the cars had 2 fat guys and an asian dude next to them). the fat guy says - look at that P.O.S. - (apparantly a clean white bmw with nothing more than M3 rims, exhaust, and xenon lights is not "ricey" enough to be a car to these people). I say "so is that just a light show, or does is deliver?" Fat guy goes to me "let's race for titles" - now I am laughing. he says he'll wipe the floor with me. I said i didn't want his car, and he started wranting. I revved up to just shy of the limiter, dumped the clutch, and pinned the gas, held some brake and steer - and slid the tail 3/4 the way around, hooked, and flew off trailing smoke. Did a slow lap around the shopping center - and guess who is pulling into wal-mart? 3 squad-cars - light racks on - and they went straight for the riced civics. It was quality.

The whole ride home, i just thought about how amazingly lucky I had been, and how sureal it was. I really need to cool it, or my luck may just run out.

thanks about the comment on the sig. slow is an understatement. she runs a 16.0 flat at 89mph. but thats really ok with me since it gets 40mpg.

damn, yea that is a really really lucky night. if i was there i wouldnt have stopped laughing. chances are you wouldve destroyed the fat asses. thats a good 150lbs of dead weight(in addition to the average persons weight) that no honda four banger can move freely without fi. hilarious. in new jersey everyone with civics thinks they are fast with exception to myself and a few others. there is an occasional civic or intregra that is insanely fast but its not doing what its doing without either slicks, a turbo, or hp in a bottle.

speaking of lucky incidences, a few days ago i was driving on the parkway(65 mph) there was mild traffic so i was carefully progressing through at 80mph. as i passed a state trooper i just prayed that he wouldnt pull out due the traffic. unfortunately, the break lights did come on the, reverse light flashed, and as soon as i saw them i dropped the peddal to the floor. i was not about to get ANOTHER ticket. i definately was very fortunate to hit a small gap in traffic a mile from the exit so i could hit 120 before the exit. i mustve just made it since i didnt see the statey again. i took the back roads all the way home. God was with me.

i had about the same happen this evening. My freind (who has a GT40X 5.0 V8 Ford Ranger truck) and I were out "competitively driving" down county road 1, a 4 lane 45mph road - which is doggedly patrolled. His radar was clean. All of a sudden we come around a bend near an intersection, and who do we see next to a smashed up buick - 2 state troopers. I would've let off my gas and just coasted by low profile, but i was behind the ranger, and he quick jerked off on the first road and takes off down the backroads, i ofcourse had to follow - else face 2 state popos alone. we got clear, but man it was not good. We weren't going so fast, well maybe 65-70 (not bad seing as we've done near 100 - and this road is somewhat twisty), but we were making a lot of noise doing it, both of us with loud exhausts - both of us have short 3rds, keeping me above 5, and him close to it.

yeah i had a close call today, cruising at my usual 15-25mph over on the highway i notice a red pontiac gtp(which peeled out at the light, and i left behind) catching up very quickly, i guess he was mad? anyway so i am cruising down the road at 80 in a 55 and as i come around the slow corner i spot a statey(i guess my radar was sleeping) he nails me and starts to pull out when who should come flying by... you guessed it, the angry little man in the gtp, the cop pulled him over for going at least 100, haha i bet you gtp man got a lil bit angrier.

I guess the cop had "instant-on" or "POP" radar. I'll try to explain this in a simple way.

No radar detector can detect "instant-on" because like the name sais it can be turned on instantly, the only way you could detect it is if a car infront of you bounces of a few waves.

POP radar isn't detectable at all up untill now. What is does is send out a constant fluctuating wave, which means it's contantly switching on and off. By the time you detector dtects the wave and reacts to it the wave is already off so it doesn't show anythiong because your detector thinks it's a fake.

The thing is that this isn't really reliable. It tries to fool your radar detector by putting out a signal that's so fast your detector can't react to it. BUT The circuitry in the radar gun also can't react to it fast enough! This means that the gun is inaccurate, really inaccurate. A inaccuracy of atleast 30mph is normal for this gun. In the owners manual of the gun it clearly sais that the gun shouldn't be used for measuring speeds accuratly. Even though police corpses in the US seem to be using this gun, I don't know why. If you ever get caught by a POP gun then you should fight it, because it's inaccurate.

ill keep that in mind if i get pulled over with instant on. i thought he could have been using it yesterday but when i got hit i got one beep, then a few more but never a high alert. usually when i get hit with instant one my radar sounds like its going to explode, and i get full alert.

but thanks for the info on istant on

wow that definately explains a lot!!! twards the end of the most recent summer i was going 60 in a 35 and the cop pulled me over. naturally i acted non the wiser(i knew i was going that fast). i told the officer i didnt know how i was clocked going 60 and that i would never go that fast in that area due to traffic lights. he went back to his car to check my record. a few minutes later he appologized and let me go. he seemed a little nervous as well. i drove away laughing though.

another reason to live in Bulgaria yesterday they cought me with 110 in 50km zone!yes I had a ticket it was only 5$ on hand!here that is 10leva! :) 2 beads cost 1lev!some times if you want you don`t stop! :)
