BMW V8 und andere zukünftige Konkurrenten, was meint Ihr?

off-topic:

@rog

V8 Coupé Set To Hit UK

ould big Vauxhall coupés be on their way back? It's up to you, because the company has brought a Holden Monaro to the British Motor Show - and removed its badges in a bid to gauge public opinion.

A spiritual successor to the popular Calibra, the Aussie giant is based on the Omega. But while that car rivals the BMW 5-Series, the Monaro competes in price with the 3-Series coupé.

The biggest clue to the Luton firm's intentions is that the Australian muscle car is on the NEC stand next to a plaque proudly naming it as a Vauxhall. Depending on how the Monaro is received, it could be imported as a low-volume model - like Vauxhall did with the Chevrolet Corvette - or go through full type approval procedures to become a bona fide Vauxhall.

Under the bonnet, the Monaro isn't what you'd call subtle. A 5.7-litre US-built Chevy V8 develops 302bhp - enough to propel the car from 0-60mph in 6.0 seconds. More impressive is the fuel economy from the huge powerplant, a competitive 28.5mpg.

If the 5.7-litre engine is considered to be too much for the British market, the Australian range also includes a 3.8-litre 230bhp supercharged V6. Either model would offer smooth power delivery and great cruising ability.

Vauxhall's original plans to build a V8 Omega were scuppered by a lack of interest throughout the European markets, so if the manufacturer went ahead and imported the Monaro it would be exclusive to the UK. Chris Thorp
