Ferrari and Maserati roll into Moscow

Moscow 19 March 2004 – After a spirited dash across Northern Europe, Sweden, Finland and Saint Petersburg in Russia, a Ferrari 575M Maranello, a 360 Modena, a Maserati Quattroporte and a Spyder Cambiocorsa have arrived in Moscow. They attended a press conference organised by importer Mercury, as a huge crowd of Muscovites gathered for the official launch of Ferrari and Maserati in the Russian market.

There are high expectations for the two brands in Russia, not least because this Tour offered further confirmation of just how reliable the two brands are when faced with the toughest of climatic conditions.

"The official marketing will begin with the opening of the Showroom in Moscow in the second half of May," announced Maserati Sales Director Roberto Ronchi. "But even now, we can predict selling at least 100 Ferraris and Maseratis in 2004 alone."

"The Russian market has enormous potential," said Ferrari Maserati Group Communication Director Antonio Ghini, "but as is traditional, Ferrari and Maserati both want to maintain the requisite brand exclusivity and respond to spontaneous market demand without forcing it, as that wouldn’t be part of the Group’s policy."

The Russian and Northern European Tour left the Maserati headquarters in Modena on 5 March and cut through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia as far as Saint Petersburg and Moscow, before setting off on the return leg through the Baltic Republics, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria. The cars are expected back in Modena in late March.

Great attention was also focused on Formula 1, in view of the upcoming second leg of the F1 World Championship which takes place in Malaysia this weekend.

Russia will be the 50th country conquered by the Ferrari Maserati Group as a result of very high demand and strong market interest.

Holder of the Constructors’ World title for the last five Formula 1 seasons, Ferrari’s most important world markets are the United States, Germany and England. The market situation is quite similar for Maserati which also looks set to garner fresh victories on the racing circuits courtesy of the new MC12 after it makes its track debut in mid-season.

Würd mich nicht wundern wenn in 5-10 Jahren es auch Ferrari China gibt. :)

Ich hab mal nen Bericht gesehen, ich glaub der war aus China wie sie da mit ihren Ferraris rumgefahren sind. Bin mir aber nicht mehr ganz sicher ob es China oder Japan war.

Würd mich nicht wundern wenn in 5-10 Jahren es auch Ferrari China gibt. :)

Wenns nach Ecclestone geht, müssen wir Europäer ja froh sein, in 5 Jahren noch Ferraris kaufen zu können. :???:

Da seid ihr beiden etwas auf dem Holzweg, Ferrari ist doch schon seit 10 Jahren in China offiziell vertreten. :wink:

Grand parade in Tian-an-Men square to celebrate 10 years of Ferrari in China

Maranello, October 30th - Last Sunday the inhabitants of Beijing were treated to an unusual but spectacular sight: a rolling procession of 34 Ferrari and Maserati vehicles through the city. Their Chinese owners had gathered at the local showroom on occasion of the tenth anniversary of Ferrari’s presence China. The city’s main thoroughfare was closed to traffic to allow the parade to pass by before the cars lined up in the shadow of the ‘Great Hall of the People’ – the colossal seat of the Chinese parliament.

Behind the wheel of the lead car - a yellow 360 Modena owned by a Hong Kong businessman – was Piero Ferrari. He was in Beijing for the event along with other representatives from the Maranello management team.

The stunning backdrop made an ideal setting in which the local and international media could film and interview the participants. The curiosity of the vibrant crowd was caught up in the swirling reds of the Parliament and the traditional paper kites that seem to always adorn this most famous piazza in all China.

After the official welcome, breakfast was taken in the hall normally reserved for government affairs and political meetings. The procession then filed away towards the hotel in which the afternoon press conference was to be held.

Piero Ferrari and the Commercial Director of Ferrari, Mario Micheli, spoke on the importance to the Group of the Chinese market at a time in which the country was in rapid economic development. The actual number of Ferraris circulating in China is around 85 (as Ferrari Granturismo have a limited production run) a figure, though, destined to rise thanks to the boom in popularity for Maranello motors. After the introduction of the first Ferrari into China in 1993, the official importer delivered 5-6 cars per year to Chinese clients. This number rose to 18 in 2002 and is predicted to reach 30 in 2003.
