Well Has anyone here ever seen the first "automobile"? It's more like a friggin' carriage with no horse. Oh and Thunf, it's okay to say damn.

I agree, the AMG S-Class is a strange thing. It's far too bulky to really be a performance car, even by AMG standards. And production numbers are close to zip.

To Persian, "Mercedes Bashing" is not the intent here, at least from most of us. But can't you understand why anyone would look at the new S-Class with reservation? I hope it's not the standard, because if it is, cars are going in the wrong direction. The new S-Class is clearly 7-Series inspired in a number of ways. But then that's hardly a flattering thing anymore.

I think that's why they called it a "horseless carriage".

yeah i saw one of them for sale actually, think of a big wooden rotted out carriage with the predecessor to "briggs and stratton", mounted on its hind quaters. Like 4 horsepower and the steering system made a radio flyer wagon look good. yeah 1897 Motorized Carriage

Yes, horseless carriage if you will. But Mercedes is full of it if they claim that Gottlieb Daimler or Karl Benz invented of the car, they simply perfected the concept of internal combustion power, even though 4hp is nothing to hoot and holler about. No single entity invented the automobile, it was an evolution which began with steam cars as far back as the 18th. century and slowly progressed from there.

About the new S-Class, I've found that more often than not, if a car looks gastly in the press pictures, it'll probably be a real tub in person. The fender bulges for one thing seem way too much. That stuff is kind of juvenile, better suited to a Lancer Evo than a Benz sedan.

They did invent the motorcycle.

First internal combustion motorcycle. Actually, the first "motorcycle" recorded in the history books was created in 1869 by Sylvester Howard Roper, an American inventor - you guessed it, powered by steam. He also built steam cars. Everything that is powered by internal combustion, you can be sure was powered by steam many years before.

Here is a pic of the 1869 model. The first "hog". Later models could do 40mph.
