Carlsson plans a lightweight racing version of the Mercedes-Benz SL roadster. Engine output at least 600 HP and only a weight of 1350 kg. That enormous weight reduction is possible through disassembly of all comfort functions, the roof mechanism and the use of carbon fiber. Already the exchange of the original seats against racing seats saves a weight of 120 kg. The Performance figures are really good: 0-60mph under 4 seconds and a topspeed over 200mph. This car is a real racer.
Seems kind of at odds with what the modern day SL is about. It's days as a hardcore racer have been gone for decades. But like jello, there is always room for yet another variation of a Mercedes I guess.

to be perfectly honest, i don't get the point. It seems like a lot of work, there are other cars that could be made to perform better more easily, but I do think now that it's done, it is kinda cool.

Don't forget the 5,000 watt stereo blasting techno, and 0-60 in 1.4 seconds!
But as far as the Carlsson goes, at least it's nice to know that whatever turns you on, it's out there.
