"mv" already talked about this, but I'm giving here the link so all can read about MB's upcoming plans for the next few years.

As a suspected, the 5.0 will get replaced in 2006 for a 5.5 liter V-8, and power will go from 306 Horsepower to 410 !! And the AMG 5.5 supercharged will get replaced and there will be that new 6.3 AMG naturally aspirated engine for the S & CL & ML & SL class ....
There will be a new R class SUV crossover concept aimed at higher price bracket than the ML, it will be bigger and more expensive and more luxurious ....... and looks like the S 430 will get named the S 460 with a 4.6 liter 360 horsepower V-8 making up the bottom of the line S-Class ...
And the SL gets updated with SLR-like front end and updates next year .....

it's strange that a lot of respected sites,mags predict only 500hp(or even less) in case of the new AMG V8...dunno what to think about it...i would consider it as a step backwards(the current V8K is superior to an NA V8 with approximately the same horsepower and even less torque in my opinion)

I've been hearing that the 6.3 AMG will have even more torque than the current car, I suppose because the displacement will increase from just under 5.5 liters to 6.3 liters, and because the engine will be a completely new design with variable valve timing and all the computer tricks and light & strong alloy design with 4-Valve & DOHC systems replacing the current 3-Valve and SOHC systems .....

I believe they'll pull through ... plus with the quicker shifting trans the car should be quicker than any current stock s/c 55 car.

I guess we'll just wait and see .....
