These were introduced late last year, They have yet to go over them again......

Issue: Vehicle Noise / Audio system
Bill: HB 998
Status: In Committee
Location:
Description: Amends the vehicle code to add a section including vehicle sound amplification systems so that no one will operate such a device so that it can heard from 50 or more feet away. Penalty would be a fine of not more than $100.
Author: House members LaGrotta and Bebko-Jones
Intro Date: 16-Mar-05
Bill Type: Two Year Bill from 2005

This is from SEMA

Pennsylvania Reintroduces Bill to Ban the Use of
Aftermarket Exhaust Systems
Legislation (H.B. 1330) that would effectively prohibit the use of exhaust systems other than a “factory-installed muffler” or a “muffler meeting factory specifications” has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives by Representative Michael K. Hanna (Phone: 717/772-2283, Fax: 717/787-4137). The bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.

Contact Rep. Hanna and Members of the Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 1330

H.B. 1330 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 1330 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance and utility.

H.B. 1330 would make it nearly impossible for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

H.B. 1330 perpetuates the erroneous assumption that enthusiasts who equip their vehicles with modified exhaust systems are involved in illegal street racing.

This is the first thing I thought of. All these decisian makers should make a point to know a bit about that which they speak. So many of their claims are based on what they've been told by the people who are complaining and demand reform, many of whom are coming from prejudice and ignorance themselves.

There are fart cans, and there are performance muffers, just like there are sour apples everywhere. But not everyone who equips non-OEM spec parts are out to raise hell. Blanket policies are never a fair or smart move.

I can see ways how that bill could fall through though. Too many grey areas involved.

I would like to hear less of the fart cans. I mean when a 200 horsepower 4 cylinder needs to be that loud. Oh I found out something yesterday the Lamborghini Diablo's exhaust sounds like Sh%&. Really wished I had the Iroc with me. I might have had him through the 60ft. What do they run in the 0-60? I'm probably around 5.7 on my stock junker

Fart cans are just made to be loud, nothing more. They need to be outlawed if anything.

A Diablo, you ran across one? There are so many variations of Diablo's, but your typical late model Devil can run to 60 in under 4 seconds, like 3.8. That's if the driver has any skills at all.

No, the Lambo V12 has more of a stock car sound to it, with a fair bit of rasp. At least that's how the exhaust is. But they can sound really good actually.

It caught my attention from about a 1/2 mile away a guy in his 20's was driving it. I was getting gas for the Iroc (with a gas can). It looked like this may not be the exact year but looks almost exactly the same.

It was this

with this backend in yellow..

Beautiful car but the exhaust was too raspy for me.

well i was thinkin 60ft. If I hookup I can run a 2.0 flat,(stock, gotta love the low end) if I don't get tire grip, maybe a 2.2 or 2.4 . If it hooks I can just about get anyone on the launch...

Bleh, the fart can = loud annoying ass muffler that can be heard for miles. Right?

at first i thought you were calling me a fart can the general definition is true but to me it is a pipe thats on a car thats slow and annoying that can be heard for miles. some aftermarket exhausts sound pretty good. even on fourbangers, but i know you have mixed opinions about that and i know why.

i understand that you like your exhaust to sound like thunder and i know that sounds sick when a big v8 rumbles. but the high revving sound is nuts, too. the sound of anything going to 9000+rpm usually takes it away from fart can status for me.

I revved my 305 to 7K once, it lit my cats on my and blew out my 20 yr. old stainless steel muffler. Now my car is loud, and it sounds nice.

Bleh, I actually had a buddy that had a 99? Prelude, beautiful car but needed some body work. Racing caused the fiberglass to get messed up. He put on a few thousand in exhaust and the CAI. Car sounded really nice, it was slow as sh%$ but sounded nice. He sold it, the current owner thinks its a "bada$$" race car, and beats the crap out of it. lol.

But yes I do prefer the lumbering sound of an 8. Its great, hearing cars drive from my window I know what engine they have...
