Well, an F1 'box on what is essentially a very fast Grand Tourer? I'm just not convinced it has its place in the Vanquish. I wouldn't mind if it was an option, but the DB7 Vantage does basically the same job with the six-speed manual gearbox and in more luxury. You might as well save the money and order a DB7 instead.
The paddle 'shift was nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction to the fashion of Italian marques fitting them in their sports cars. Fair enough, but A.M. must have forgotten that the Italians also offer a standard manual 'box. I wonder how many sales A.M. have lost on the Vanquish through not offering a standard gearshift.
it is a hard battle for aston against the italians, the DB7 is for the purist, the aston afficianado, vanquish is a state of the art flagship showing off what they can do, meant to go head to head with the meanest italian machines, i would like to have seen a real 6spd, but i can see their reasoning.
