BMW has leaked out some information or rumours about it being the 5.0L V10 with 2 less cylinders and 1 less litre. So it could be a 4.0L V8 taken from the 5.0L V10 with 400hp.

Not much at this point, but a V8 is probable, it also may not even be called an M3. Personally I don't see a need for an eight - it seems like a cop out. Just look at the jump they have made with the standard sixes. They're making more power now than the U.S. spec E36 M3.

It will be a 4L V8, I am almost positive. Remember the M3-GTR? Yea, it will probably be the same motor, except without a lot of the race parts.

Yeah, it's almost certain.

Talk about a bunch of bad ass M-cars now-days

These M's should rock MAJOR ass. High-winding V8's and V10's making insane amount's of hp. GOD you have to love it.

i think a new ground up engine is being developed with 400-410hp using a old engine is not BMW's style.

The V10 is hardly old, it's fresh baked in fact. But I don't think lopping off a couple of cylinders from an existing engine is really BMW's style.

I think there can be such a thing as too high winding though, I like a little old fashioned low end grunt. BMW may think they have taken the straight six as far as it will go, but the new V10 revs higher than the S54 from the M3 which was ground breaking in it's own right, so there are still places to go for the six configuration.

i would still rather bmw have a high revving 3.6 6 cylinder instead of a v8 motor shame we will no longer hear the great sound of the 3.2 m power engine that is one of the best sounds ever made by a car

Best sounding six from the E46??? I wouldn't say that but they sound hawt with an aftermarket exhaust. It sounds to ricey when you get into the higher RPM's coming stock.
