Default Convertible lower by remote

I have seen information (pg 31 of the US owners manual) that says the top can be lowered via the remote on the key. Does anybody have any information on this? My dealer can neither confirm or deny it.

Thanks

Since it's a standard feature, I would say that your dealer is a total dufus. " Can neither confirm nor deny it. " why doesn't he just admit he doesn't know anything  ? It's his job to know.

Well, I don't have experience with the E46 convertable myself, but I know the basic functions are Door lock/Unlock, Panic alarm, Power window, and Convertable top and trunk. Since this is the age of multi-function buttons, I would suggest you experiment with the window and trunk buttons. Try holding one down a little longer than usual, or press the button two or three destinct times.

Hope this works for you.

The book says hold down for an extra 2 seconds but this simply doesn't work. Does anyone have this working out there?

If you're doing exactly what the book says and nothing is happening, first make sure you're pressing the right button. And if still nothing, you should make a real issue of it with your dealer. Show him the manual, and the fob and let him try it.

You paid good money to have that car, and should not have fuss such things, have them replace it under warranty or something.

Have done that and they brought out their "senior" tech to speak with me. He informed me of some lawsuits in the past and that they hadn't done that since the mid 90's. Who knows.... I will have to kick them in the teeth a couple of time!

Am I the only one on the net with a great dealer?

Please tell me who your dealer is so I can contact them. Do you think they know how to program the top to be controlled by the remote?

I don't know where you are Jcagle, I imagine you are in the U.S., but GIR is in the Netherlands. I'm sure you can find a good dealer in the U.S. Get away from the dealer you have now and you've already made progress. Good luck .

call BMW's north american opperations and ask to file a complaint on your dealer. I promise you, within a few days, they will be sending you flowers and planting their lips firmly on your ass.

I'll call them this morning and tell that if they can't figure it out I'll just call BMW NA and get them to look into it. You're right, nobody likes it when a manufacturer is called!
