I am the proud owner of a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 with a stock 289 and I was looking into improving it's handeling before it's power and I was looking in to a aftermarket Mustang two front end. I also found a mustang magazine that put a independent 2001 Mustang Cobra rear end into a 67 mustang. I wanted to preform both of these mods to my Cougar but my question is on the frame witdh. Is the witdh of the frame of the 67 Cougar the same as the width of the 67 Mustang? I know Ford and Mercury parts are very interchangable I am asking for help for any one with knowalge on what I have to do to and parts to but to make my Cougar with front and rear independant suspension. Fabrication is not a problem but I would like to keep it at a minimal.
i have a freind whose dad has a 67' cougar with the SVT Cobra rear end. I guess it can be done, though I am not sure how hard he had to work to do it. The frame width difference is nearly negligible between Mustang and Cougar.
I am very jealous of you. I wish I had a car with a 289 in it.

Hey shtntz the widths ARE the same, but I don't think that's reason enough for you to be able to interchange them. If it was that easy it would have been done much more often than we see. Or maybe I'm wrong. By the way do you have a pic. of this car? I'd love to see what it looks like.
That's exactly what I was thinking, Fox. I think I saw something like that on that show "Junkyard Wars". I'm not sure if it was exactly this, but it was something similar, and the people doing the modifying did a lot of cutting and welding. No "odd improvisings" though (at least I don't think).
