2009 500hp Chevrolet Camaro

Muscle: That's the first word that comes to mind upon seeing Chevy's concept Camaro. Big-time muscle. Enough to possibly make Arnold think about switching allegiances within the GM family. Build it and they will come; drop the 500-plus-bhp Corvette Z06 engine into a Z28 version and name your price.

Andrew Bornhop, Editor, R&T Specials, provides the insightful commentary to the accompanying video. Among the numerous bits of info, Bornhop reports that the new Camaro could launch as a 2009 model. AARRGGHH! We can't wait that long! Mr. Lutz: Commit to a 2008 model launch and watch the buyers line up.

Damn right! The return of pony car muscle.

The proportions are so much like that of the proposed Dodge Challenger - said to be out by '08. It'll be great to see how this heats up, the Mustang just might take a back seat when these two come out.

A Camaro with a ZO6 motor would probably be tagged an "SS" at least. The possibility of a Firebird TransAm variant makes me smile.

From the way it seems the LS7 motor may just become a standard Z-28 motor.. Past year or so I have heard rumors of a Engine design from Chevrolet that antiquates the LSX motors much like the gen 1 small block has become a relic. If I can find it I will post the CAD designs along with more pics.

It really does look anthropomorphic, though. It's like it's biomechanical or something; needless to say, I like it.

About the LS7, I don't see that motor becoming antiquated anytime soon, at least not as far as regular production standards go. In that regard it's a pretty high tech piece of machinery for a car that doesn't cost even 100 grand. And Chevy wouldn't sell a Camaro that could outgun a standard Vette anyway.

You know what that face reminds me of? "Calvin". The car looks like it should be pissing on a blue oval.

I see the resemblance. I thought that the Camaro was basically always neck and neck with the C5 in the 1/4 mile. Now the Z06, that's a different story.

They have made camaros and firebirds faster than vettes before. Its just rare. .Take the ZL1 camaros, copos etc. As well as the TTA though it wasn't faster than the ZR1. Though the firehawk had just as much power as the ZR1.

the camaro concept does not come with 500 hp it only comes with a 6.0 liter v8 with only 400 hp
